Frontenac Bakery

Frontenac Bakery Owners ~ The Robinson Family Frontenac Bakery was established in 1900 by George V***a, an Italian immigrant. That is how and why Frontenac Bakery came to life!

Prior to coming to Frontenac, V***a was a baker in northern Italy. He came to southeast Kansas to work in the coal mines. After injuring his knee in a mining accident, he went back to baking here in Frontenac, Kansas. He had brought his family recipe for hard-crust Italian bread with him and it is still used today. The Frontenac Bakery provides 500 to 700 loaves of bread to Jim's Steakhouse in Pit

tsburg and all six chicken restaurants located in Crawford County including Chicken Annie's, Chicken Mary's, Pichler's Chicken Annie's, Chicken Annie's Girard, Barto's Idle Hour and Gebhardt's. Additionally, the bakery bakes breadsticks, bread crumbs, dinner rolls, stuffing and cinnamon rolls that are sold to local grocery stores in Crawford County

Two years ago, we became the caretakers of a little corner bakery with a very big story.

Since 1904, The Historic Frontenac Bakery has been serving generations of families with the same traditional recipes, simple ingredients, and preservative-free baking methods that have made our bread a local tradition for well over a century.

During the past two years, we've worked to honor that legacy while preserving not only the bread, but the stories, history, photographs, and memories that make this bakery so special.

Today, we're excited to share the next step in that journey—our newly updated website.

There you'll find the bakery's history, the stories behind our historic equipment, information about our products, community memories, and much more. We'll continue adding new content as we uncover more pieces of the bakery's remarkable past.

Whether you've been enjoying our bread for decades or you're discovering us for the first time, thank you for being part of our story. Your encouragement, support, and shared memories have meant more than you know.

Please take a look, explore the new website, and let us know what you think!

🎶 Sneak peek! 🎶

Here's a short preview of one of the original songs from our upcoming music album, created to celebrate our 2nd anniversary as the caretakers of The Historic Frontenac Bakery.

Over the past two years, we've discovered that this bakery is about far more than bread—it's about history, family, and the community that has kept this tradition alive since 1904.

We can't wait to share the full album with you. Until then, enjoy this little preview.

If this label looks familiar, there's a good chance you have a story to tell.

As we are preparing to launch our updated website in celebration of our second anniversary as caretakers of The Historic Frontenac Bakery, we'd love your help.

One of the new features of the website will be a collection of Testimonials and Community Memories from the people who have made this bakery part of their lives.

If you've enjoyed our bread, worked at the bakery, delivered bread, visited us, or simply have a favorite memory, we'd be honored to hear your story.

Whether your memory is from five days ago or 75 years ago, every story matters. It might be about a favorite loaf, a family tradition, a memorable employee, or a story that's been passed down through generations.

Please share your memory in the comments below.
By commenting on this post, you give The Historic Frontenac Bakery permission to share your comment and your name on our website and social media. We may make minor edits for spelling, punctuation, grammar, clarity, or length while preserving the original meaning of your words. If you prefer that we not publish your name, simply let us know in your comment.

While we may not be able to feature every submission, every memory will help us preserve the history of this remarkable bakery and the community that has supported it for generations.

Thank you for helping us preserve not only the bakery's history, but also the memories and experiences that have made it such a special part of Southeast Kansas.

Every Loaf Tells a Story. Your story is part of ours.
