The Pie Lady's Story
I have now RETIRED! The Pie Cabin is closed to breakfast and sweets. I had a fabulous 40+ year career as a Legal Assistant that spanned Houston, Dallas, Tyler, and finally College Station. I practiced my pies on coworkers for years! Following the purchase of land here in Leon County to live the dream of country life and retirement, and be near my brother, downsizing in the Ho
uston law firm quickly accelerated my plans. I picked up stakes and moved here, and things were quickly in motion. Hurricane Ike damaged my home and insurance revamped it to an attractive piece of real estate in the 2009 recession. Following layoffs, I sold it quickly!, and made plans to move to my land, but I had no home! A young jet mechanic put a mobile home that he remodeled online for sale, and it was perfect for me. I drove to Lewisville to look at it, and we called the owner; at that moment, God put 3 strangers together and solved his moving problem, the owner's daughter's tuition balance, and my living situation! I moved it her and my brother put me in touch with a contractor who became my friend and go to person to settle this place into a home. For 11+ months, I sought employment, and baked pies for local cafes. The head partner of a premier law firm in College Station hired me in February 2010, and he knew many of the attorneys I had worked with in the past. Cutting off the cafe deliveries, and motivated to keep baking pies, I set up an outdoor kiosk at my gate with a big striped umbrella, my parents' card table, and Daddy's fish frying chair. Folks would pass, stop, turn around to pick out pies. I baked all day Saturday and ventured out on FM 39 Sunday mornings, posting my hand painted wooden signs up and down the road to advertise my location. My pie passion grew beyond my dreams, as God had taken my dreams, plans and prayers to His heart, and helped me develop a dream that soared! I promised Him that I would witness to customers and share His many miracles worked in my life. My kiosk grew to a gingerbread house inside my gate with a little store set up, and after 5 months, I was faced with a decision. I had customers in my driveway while I was working in College Station. My temporary fix of coolers in the bushes was no longer working. I prayed for answers, and God had them! I resigned from my career in November 2014, after praying for an answer of how to bake 75 Thanksgiving pies in 1.5 days of vacation, and He blessed me with 5 more! My customers, neighbors, and friends came with all sorts of gifts and time to help set up my little pie kitchen. A local young man, whom I know to be very talented, took my shell building I had delivered, and built my kitchen and added room for tables! I share God's miracles with customers, and He keeps the doors to our ministry open! Thank you, Lord, for my gifts!
