Hazel’s Dessert Shoppe is celebrating our
10th Anniversary TODAY!
Ten years ago we supplied goodies for our very first event- a large conference of 300 people, consisting of 30 dozen of our large cookies, multiple runs to the store for storage containers, more bags of flour than I originally had calculated, a hope, a dream, and a Grandmother who had taught me everything I ever knew about baking. All these years later, through tears, reworking recipes, trying (and failing!) and trying again to make packaging simple yet stylish, more cookies and cakes and bread and bars and middle of the night pie baking than we can count, and the loss of that very Grandmother, I stand here proud. Proud that a little dream that I was embarrassed to even have, has brought so much joy to my life and others. I have a little sous chef now (let’s face it, he just likes to eat, not help!), and I know that Grandma still watches over us with pride. For the many times she took teaching me to cook and bake, and the times she took teaching me that LOVE is always what matters most, this little dream could never live up to her legacy. Grandma, I miss you the most on days where I could be celebrating you, and on the days I wish I could call you in excitement. But today… I am doing both. I am celebrating everything you encouraged me to be, but maybe the call is different. The call is from the heart that you so lovingly taught me to have.
SO PLEASE have a piece of pie in her honor and celebrate with us- lemon cloud (her fav!), or the cherry that she made for a certain 4th graders birthday party, because that is what ALL 4th graders want… right? We had a seafood dinner in her honor… and served her favorites at yet another community event tonight! What better way to celebrate such a date as this!
