It was while sitting on the couch tensely watching pastry chefs and home bakers from the first season of “The Holiday Baking Championship
” that I discovered my love for baking. So I stumbled upon an ad in the local paper and ventured into the field of hospitality at 18 starting as a kitchen apprentice to Executive Chef, John Gladchuk and sous chef, Jon Hunt. There I learned how to make the muffins they would serve with the bread at the lunch service. I remember the first batch I made and took a bite out of one of those muffins. I remember this so vividly. John Gladchuk was standing in front of me waiting to see the reaction he had anticipated, complete euphoria. With each bake, I became even more entranced by the process of mixing sugar and flour with the perfect ratio of liquid into a bowl to create a tasty creation. I eventually left that restaurant, but everyday since, I wake up and love what I do. Every damn day. Whether it’s making fresh bagels before the sun comes up or making the ultra rich Double Chocolate Zucchini Muffins in the early afternoon. Our love of baking here is not limited to the time of day.
