Opening a business makes you the resident expert overnight. I was fortunate to have 11 years of industry experience when I bought my business. You don't have to have a fancy degree to open up a business. For me, it was the kindness of strangers who sparked a dream and vision for me. Almost 20 years later, I'm so thankful that they picked up the phone.

I don't know about you, but starting over can be tricky. I moved a lot growing up and dreaded beginning again. But, looking back, that resistance has allowed me as an adult to know that I CAN begin again. And it's okay. Those loud voices that say we should throw in the towel or weren't good enough the first time, so why bother again? They can be really loud. What new journey are you working on? Do you need permission from someone else or just yourself to move forward? We can do it.

I hope my boys remember this season of life as a living testimony of our faith. Do I wish things were easier? Yes, who doesn’t? But I hope they see strength in chasing after Him. I still live with daily reminders of good and hard, reminders of cause and effect, happiness and heartache. But I hope my boys have learned lessons that would never come in a traditional classroom, lessons about chasing dreams, marrying a best friend, the value of deep faith and friendships, about hard work and inner strength, how God will be present and provide, how His word is always true. His timing is not ours. Thank you for these last day image treasures at 574. My heart is so full. 🩷

I started this study the Monday after I closed my shop. I had no idea what would unfold in those next 30 days. Today, September 13th, is the first birthday my dad is celebrating in heaven. And I’m so thankful he’s there, but the heartache is so raw from so much happening these past few weeks of life. For those of you who are struggling and feel alone, you aren’t alone. I want to leave with these beautiful words by Jesus is never hiding from us. He’s waiting to be seen by us. In the hard places. In the hurting places. In the not-yet healed places. In the uncertain places. In the waiting places. In the celebrating places. And especially in the everyday places. 🩷 Today I’m thankful for Jesus. And I’m thankful for my Dad. I hope your 80th celebration was everything your earthly vision dreamed it would be.

To our sweet friends and family,
Thank you for these past 7 years of letting us be part of your lives. When we purchased this fifty-year-old business, we had no idea how many chapters would unfold within the walls of our original location and our current home. My goal has always been to create a space filled with child-like wonder and inspiration, from the sights and sounds to smells and experiences. The sounds of squeals and giggles hundreds of you made when entering my doors provided reassurance that we all need to feel like kids in a candy store. You have shared your families with me, your tables with me, your celebrations and heartaches. You’ve walked with my family as my boys have become men and graduated from front to back of counter employees. You’ve laughed with us, cried with us, prayed with us, and supported us through so many seasons and my heart is forever full.
Saturday, July 20th will be our last day of business. Thank you for allowing me to dream and provide a special space in our community. I hope we have been a tiny blessing to you in the same way you have forever blessed our family. We have packed our calendar full of events and will have beautiful merchandise and displays available to purchase in-store. Please come help us close our case for the last time.
To the thousands of students I have taught, remember that we all start somewhere. Keep getting your hands dirty and remember you are never too old to play with your food.
To my fellow small business owner friends, I see you. I am your biggest fan. I am here to be a cheerleader for you.
To my customers across the globe, thank you. You mean the world to us.
To my staff, thank you for showing up and loving our community with us. Our family is forever grateful.
To the dreamers, keep finding a way to make your own beautiful space in this world.
Peace, love, and blessings to you,
Mrs. Sugar Drop and family
