As you may have heard already, the Treasure Chest will be closing as of August 27th.
While there were a number of factors that led to the decision, ultimately, a business has to support itself and trend toward making a profit and the Treasure Chest just hasn't been hitting the mark.
This was one of the hardest decisions Iāve made and if I could have had it go any other way, I would have. I am aware of the impact this will have on the vendors and community and that feels like the heaviest weight of it all. I said yes to taking the business over because as our world grows crazier, it seems important to me to keep small towns alive and shopping local is a critical piece of that. I really, truly, wanted it to work.
I have tried everything I knew to do- considered a multitude of other angles or ways I could pivot the business or continue add to the business, even spoke with a successful business owner in town to get his input on numbers & options and finally, put the decision off as long as I possibly could.
Maybe youāve had the experience of God nudging you that something has to be done. And if youāre like me, at first you pretend you canāt hear it. Then you finally admit that okay FINE I hear you, and you try to bargain. So then God chuckles and says āokay, if you really need me to hit you over the head with it, here you go.ā That hit came a few weeks ago and boy did God nail it. I knew almost instantly that this was my sign from God. And so finally, I surrendered.
If youāve ever had a dream of your own youāve launched, you know how dreadful it can be to struggle with it or watch it fail.
And while I donāt exactly consider this a failure, because I knew with open eyes what I was stepping into when I said yes to taking it on- I do wish I could have turned it around and made it a thriving business in the community.
So very many of you were enthusiastic and incredibly supportive when I took over. Many of you have been supporters of my cooking, catering and baking- and I am happy to say that while some of that will be on pause for a while, there are other options in the works that may allow me to continue catering, freezer meals and other cooking in the hopefully near future. For now, orders for baked goods can still be placed as I can offer that from my home and Iāll do more baked goods for sale for pick up from my house, the farmers market or special delivery.
Event rentals, massage, baking and even some vintage sales will continue. I will put links in the comments below if youād like to join the food group Iāve set up as well as the page for the event rentals or Etsy shop.
If you have a massage gift certificate or want to schedule a massage, you can still call or text me to do that at a new location.
Letters have been sent to vendors with further details of which Iāll spare you all here, but happy to chat about them individually if youād like.
A HUGE THANK YOU is in order to all of you who patronized the shop on the regular and were genuine supporters of the shop. It does not go unrecognized and I am grateful for how heartening it was to have so many of you cheer the shop on. While I donāt know what will happen in the buildings after we vacate, I trust it will be something exciting and positive for the community.
We'll have some great sales this month as we've had in the month of July, so come in and shop! And as always, please, please, please SHOP LOCAL! š
