Now on to the biggest question... how much are fondant custom cakes? First they are made of cakes inside but can never be compared to the store bought ones since it’s made from scratch( at least mine are) icing from scratch including fondant . I try to have everything edible on my cakes too so I have to do everything. Making shapes , figures are time consuming especially if they are very detailed that is why custom fondant cakes are pricy than regular ones. Also it’s a unique cake made for you. Though the designs maybe copied it will never be exactly the same. So ingredients may not play a big part in the cost but the labour will. I spend hours , days and weeks for a cake just because you have to make them from scratch mould and knead them in the shape that you want , the hardest is to mix the color to achieve the desired look. Then some parts are allowed to dry before you can use them. You chill and frost the cake and chill it again. Then you put on the fondant and continue smoothing it . I don’t stop till I get a thumbs up from my two critics who push me to do better.
I started to watch non stop on you tube and got my hands on that fondant as much as I could. It would take me days and I would spent the whole night making them. I soon found myself making my fondant custom cake as gifts. I enjoyed everyone’s reaction once they see the cakes. Then I guess they liked it and so I got orders.
There was going to be a luau party in the neighbourhood . Tara one more chance to create something. That little crab is smaller than my thumb.
So more of the journey... the hunger to get my hands on fondant was getting bigger. I remember a friends daughter was having a birthday. I promised to try and make some cake toppers according to their theme which was beach party. So I tried making some flip flops and flowers to give to her and put on top of the cake. So I made one , then 2 and made more. Then I thought maybe I should go ahead and bake a cake and see how it would look. The cakes were baked 1 carrot and 1 chocolate. Then I searched on how to make fondant because I could not eat the store bought fondant and can’t imagine it on my cake. Ohhhhhh it looked really good , it was just like clay that I could mould into different shapes. Then on this cake was my first try to cover it with fondant. It cracked and ripped this pushing me to buff the cracks away for hours. Then I had to make flowers and vines to cover it. I remember panicking and calling my mom in the Philippines and she stayed with me for hours on FaceTime. She cheered me on and made suggestions how I could cover the imperfections. At the end it somehow looked like a cake and it was heavy. I think not bad for a first timer! But something in me was just stirred up. I wanted to do more.
My 2nd try after the bugs and flowers. Crown for cupcake toppers and the pillow to carry a crown , meant to be a cake topper. This was way back in 2015 and was hand carried all the way to Michigan.

Sharing my journey in finding custom fondant cakes was just an idea that came to mind yesterday. I would normally just post pictures of the cake to show what we have created. The idea came after sometime of meditating about life and my Creator. I started thinking about this skill that I have and gratitude welled up from within me and I would be the first to know that it is an ability given by God for apart from Him I cannot do anything. So this is an act to acknowledge Him because He enabled me.
My daughter’s first birthday was when I first encountered fondant from the store. It took me more than a week just to make flowers and bugs but after that I fell in love with it. I wanted to try making them but soon found out it would require a lot of time. I will post a picture as soon as i dig it from tralala. Then came my nieces 7th birthday and for her dessert table or candy bar since she will be the princess, I decided to make little crowns as cupcake toppers and a small pillow to carry the crown. It felt good and each time I created something it brought up feelings of joy and wanting to do more. I will post a picture of that in a bit and check back with me soon for more of my journey.
Unicorn cakes are a favorite these days. The bottom cake painted with the same color hues as the mane. Happy 7th Savannah!

My daughter gets to teach on any topic for a school project. Guess what she is going to teach this week? ... How to make fondant. I was amazed at how well she presented it and all I told her was to tell a story about how we do it. I told her to imagine it and tell the class. She has had experience making fondant since the age of 4. She would usually mix Colors and come up with a beautiful shade and so I would have to ask which ones she had mixed and start from there.
She also has been a lot of help since she can knead well. That comes handy when I need multiple colours. She would start making them while I bake.
She would also work on the letters and numbers by using the rolling pin to flatten fondant and use letter / number cutters. She’s my little worker.
