This is not a pity post but a post to let my cake customers know what’s going. A Piece of Cake will be closed for business for awhile.
On 2/18 my son and I were in a car accident when we were heading back to CO from visiting home in MN. I was pulling a Uhaul behind the truck, just got on the highway maybe 10 seconds, hit a patch of ice and lost control. We spun around facing traffic and hit the ditch. About a minute later we were hit head on by another vehicle that apparently hit the same patch of ice, lost control and hit us head on: he drove off, not sure how, so now we’re dealing with a hit and run! Logan and I were unhurt but obviously shook up. We returned back to my mom’s as the accident was less than 3 miles from her house, thank goodness! Long story short next day I was having pain in my neck, shoulder, ribs and left wrist. I went to urgent care and after X-rays they put a neck brace on me for a suspected broken neck and cast on my left wrist with a quick ambulance ride to hospital for ct scan. It was confirmed neck not broken, but a bad sprain and whiplash. The X-ray of the wrist confirmed an approx 4” tumor found on my left wrist, not accident related. Shocked to hear the news because I’ve had little pain in my wrist, some pain after I’ve made cakes and I just contributed this to overworking my wrist.
My hubby flew to MN to drive the rental car back to CO, thank goodness! When we returned to CO I saw an orthopedic dr and I will be scheduled for surgery soon. Dr thinks tumor has been there for quite sometime because of the type of tumor it looks like to be. This will be confirmed after biopsy.
I am deeply saddened to say my cake baking days are on hold for at least 6 months. It’s amazing how much I use my left hand, and I’m right handed. I really need my left hand assistant to be successful and I can’t do my cakes without it.
Thank you for understanding if I’ve had to cancel your cake order - my 2021 calendar was filling up fast! It’s a blessing that the tumor was found as I am anxious to get to the recovery part.
Thank you again for your business I appreciate all of you. Sheila Steele-Kaler
