This mango tree has been part of my life for almost as long as I can remember.
My father planted it around the time I was born, so it is about 60 years old now. At its prime, it towered well above the power lines and gave us more mangoes than we could ever keep to ourselves.
The first photo shows the tree in those years. The second was taken in 2018, as it began recovering after Hurricane Maria passed through St. Croix in 2017. The last photos are from this year’s mango season.
It has never fully returned to what it once was, but it is still standing. Still growing. Still producing mangoes.
Deep roots. Strong bones. Still bearing fruit.🥭
Mango is our featured flavor this August, but the story behind it goes back long before The Cheesecake Boutique.
