I realized I’ve never properly introduced myself over here, so hi! I’m Katie, the mom and baker behind Bites 4 Blake.🤍

I’m a home baker in Farmersville Texas making cookies, mini cakes, cake pops, and whatever new thing I can’t stop thinking about that week.

I started Bites 4 Blake for my daughter, Blake, who has Mowat-Wilson syndrome. A rare genetic condition that causes severe developmental delays as well as a plethora of other issues. We live in Texas and for anyone in Texas you already know what I am going to say but for those that don’t, Texas is one of the worst states to live with a child with a disability. There is little to no help, and families are left to cover so much themselves. This little bakery helps us do that, and it gives me a place to share Blake’s story, advocate for kids like her, and connect with our community.

I was so honored to make the treats for Jack's Thousand Days Gala. 🤍

Bonnie and Stephen were some of the first people to make us feel like we weren’t alone in what can be such an isolating journey, and they have continued to show up for our family again and again.

I do what I do for Blake, but I also do it for Jack and for every other child who has to fight to be seen by a system that too often treats our kids like a file number in a drawer.

Hearing the stories last night of families having to fight for safety devices, equipment, nursing, medications, even life-saving medications and resources was heartbreaking. These families are doing everything they can. They make every phone call, fill out every form, take every avenue possible and ask anyone who might be able to help. So often, those pleas fall on deaf ears, or they reach the point where every resource available to them has been exhausted.

And that’s where Jack’s Thousand Days comes in.

They alleviate the fight. They ask, “What do you need? How can we help?” and then they actually do it. They step into the gaps. They make families feel heard when they have spent so long fighting to be heard. They see these kids for who they are and what they need, not as a diagnosis or a case number.

They don’t just tell families they aren’t alone. They show them.

So if you take anything from this, take a few minutes to learn about Jack’s Thousand Days. Read the stories. Share their mission. Donate if you’re able. And if you know a family who feels like they’ve exhausted every resource and doesn’t know where to turn next, tell them about JTD.

Because these kids deserve more than being a file number in a drawer.

They deserve to be seen, supported, and fought for. 🤍

My customer had a vision, and I got to bring it to life. 💐

She wanted edible centerpieces that matched the bouquet on the table, so I pulled the colors directly from the flowers and added a few flower-shaped cake pops to tie everything together.

I absolutely love how these turned out and how beautifully they complemented the arrangement. 🌷✨
