When you order a cake from a custom cake artist….
Keep in mind, the cost of ingredients and time.
Average simple 8” cake cost $90-$100
Bakers cost breakdown
🎂Butter-$12 (3 boxes of butter for cake and frosting)
🎂Filling ingredients $8-15 (fresh fruit, cream, premium chocolate etc…)
🎂Cake batter ingredients $10 (eggs, milk, flour, sugar, oil, vanilla, salt,etc….)
🎂 equipment maintenance $2 (on average)
🎂topper $10-$30
On the low side $42 is what it cost me to make it. NOT INCLUDING MY TIME. Leave $48 for my time.

Takes about 1.5-3 hours to prepare and bake the cake and prep for decorating, take care of clean up and dishes.
Takes anywhere from 2-8 hours to decorate.

I make anywhere from $4.50 - $16 an hour to make an 8” cake. I’m pretty sure I’m missing some things too. PLEASE keep this in mind when being upset about the cost of your cake.
