Hey y’all,
I’ve had so many people ask me why I named the bakery Hagar Humble Homebakes and I wish I could give you a short answer but honestly there isn’t one when I chose to start this I had no idea what I wanted the name to be so I started googling ideas for inspiration and honestly I didn’t find anything that really spoke to me.
I knew I wanted two things I wanted it to be something that meant something to me that would be close to my heart and I wanted to bring glory to God.
So I got off of google and I grabbed my Bible and I started reading all of the stories of the women of the Bible and Hagar personally resonated with me the most.
I believe this particular story like so many others shows that God hears our cries when we are in our darkest moments and that he never leaves us.
If you don’t know the full story of Hagar I encourage you to read it and I hope you find the comfort that it brings me. it begins in Genesis 16 I will leave a slight summary below as well :
God didn’t allow Hagar to die in the wilderness. She and her son were rescued in that moment. The action intended to end their lives brought emancipation for Hagar and she and Ishmael went on not just to survive but to thrive.
We are told that Ishmael became a skilled hunter and that Hagar ‘found an Egyptian wife for him.’ There’s half a sentence that tells a big story. The woman with no agency at the beginning of this story is shaping her own destiny and that of her son by the end of it.
