Wedding Wednesday! Meet Mollie and James. ❤️🏔️💍🥰

They met at 20 years old at a college party where James was serving warm vodka on a shot ski. They have now been together for over 10 years. Through COVID they lived in a 500 square foot apartment with only one door (to the bathroom) for five years, and they still decided to get married. If that is not love I don’t know what is.

Their marriage proposal happened in the Italian Dolomites on a hut to hut hiking trip. After days of steep elevation hikes, James planned one more strenuous day. Mollie was exhausted and grumpy. James was bribing her with gummy bears to keep going. When they reached the top he proposed. She said yes. He had a surprise photographer waiting back at the hotel!

For their wedding they brought their loved ones to Estes Park, the place where Mollie first fell in love with the mountains as a kid AND the place she brought James when she fell in love with him. That is what a destination wedding is really about. More than just a beautiful place. A meaningful one.

The details of this wedding were everything! Personalized matchboxes for their guests to keep the cozy mountain wedding vibe alive long after the weekend ended (photo 16). And the highlight of the night? Mollie and her dad broke out in a surprise disco moment on the dance floor that had everyone screaming
(photo 18).

If their photos look familiar, it’s because you have been seeing them all over my What Your Wedding Photographer Wishes You Knew series. Their wedding was so beautifully done that I keep coming back to it. Mollie and James, thank you for letting me use your day to help other couples plan theirs!

If you are planning a destination wedding in Colorado, I would love to hear your story. Link in bio!

There are a lot of places you could get married. But Estes Park is just different.

The mountains that make every photo look unreal. The venues that feel like they were built for exactly this. The town that wraps around your whole wedding weekend like it was made for it…the restaurants, the shops, the Stanley Hotel, the wildlife wandering through at golden hour like they got the invite too.

There’s nowhere else quite like it. And once you’ve been here, you already know that. 🏔️

They said skip the wedding cake and do a stacked cookie cake instead and it was an Iconic decision. We respect it completely. 🍪

Your wedding, your dessert table, your rules. The mountains through that window make it even better.

There’s nothing quite like watching a groom’s face the moment he sees his bride for the first time. Bear Lake just happened to be the most beautiful place to capture it. ♥️

If you’ve been told your wedding has to look a certain way…this is your sign to ignore all of that. From vibrant color to meaningful traditions, every detail of this day felt intentional, personal, and deeply rooted in who they are.

Set against the backdrop of Estes Park—mountains, river, open sky—it’s the kind of contrast we love most:
bold celebration meets quiet, breathtaking nature.

This is the shift we’re seeing right now:
Couples choosing culture over trends.
Color over “timeless neutrals.”
Meaning over performing for the internet.

When your color palette is chef’s kiss and your photographer knows exactly how to make it shine 💙✨ the way everything coordinates but doesn’t exactly match? that’s the move.

The couples who get this? They don’t want “pretty.” They want ATMOSPHERE. They want their wedding to feel like a novel. They want guests walking in like “okay this is CINEMA.”
And honestly Estes Park is perfect for this. Stone chapels. Mountain backdrops. Venues that already look like they’re from another century. Vendors who understand that “dark and moody” doesn’t mean “depressing”; it means STUNNING.

The veil caught the wind at exactly the right moment, and suddenly the whole frame shifted into something else entirely. Not posed, not planned, just newlyweds in their own world while everything around them turned soft and dreamlike. Sometimes the best photographs happen in the spaces between, when you’re too busy living the moment to notice it’s being captured, but our photographers are always ready and anticipating those moments. Come and meet us this weekend!
