I'd like to share a brief history of my beloved Daddy who is in heaven. My Dad grew up on a farm in Twin Orchards. His friends in school called him 'Fuzzy Potts'. I think because of his haircut at the time. He and my mom met when they were around 13 years old. They both had circumstances in their homes that made life a bit tough. They married at like 17 years old. My Dad always having a risk taker personality joined the rodeo circuit. He and my mom traveled the east coast with Col. Jim Eskew. People have told me at the Farmers Market that they remember seeing him perform in Vestal. I came after all that and missed being a part, but I loved hearing about it all and looking at all the pictures and some home movies! After the rodeo he opened Howard's Florist & Garden Center on the Vestal Parkway. It started with a very small building, buckets of flowers, lawn ornaments, even cider & pumpkins not to mention pony rides! I still came after that. I was born in 62 when he owned and built a bigger store just down the parkway just beyond where Red Lobster is now. Throughout my growing up years I watched him closely interact with customers and was given little jobs to do as well as my 4 older sisters. We learned the ins and outs of small business from the ground up. People were the most important part! My Dad was amazing, a natural, gifted (floral designer/landscape designer) and extremely practically smart. He was a caring and giving man and we saw it in action! Somehow he still found the time to raise his family to have faith in God, and to be devoted to each other. One of my fondest memories was his Mom's cottage. That's me sitting on my Dads lap. My Uncle Mike would bring his boat and my Dad would show off water skiing! Fishing was another activity that he loved and had us all doing! Growing up we rode horses on Sundays and family dinners, oh sometimes baseball games, in the winter we did snowmobiling and Ice skating on the pond! In the summers we had summer camp for like 200 kids. Eventually, my Dad became a Pastor as well and our church put on concerts and festivals. It wasn't a sit still for long life. It was all because of this man(& equally amazing Mom) and what God had done to his heart. He went home to be with the Lord too early as far as we are concerned, but he left such a legacy for just a simple humble man. To say I miss him is a understatement. I just skimmed the surface of who my Dad was and still is to me and my sisters. I still hear him coming down the hallway to kiss us goodnight and tell us he loves us, he was so faithful at it!
