10 things you might not know about breadhouse on woodhouse
1. I work a full time job and do breadhouse part time. I spend 40 hours at my everyday job and then I come home and spend 15-20 hours on breadhouse.
2. Breadhouse is one of the very few legal running bread business. Lots of people on Facebook sell bread and cookies and goodies but most of them are not doing it legally. I spent 9 months getting everything ready to legally open my business and you can find my business license and cottage food permit posted on the wall of the bread shed for everyone to see.
3. My bread and cookies have reduced salt compared to others. I have friends and family members with medical issues so I am very conscious of how much salt & sugar are in our food. I use a quarter of the salt recommended in my sourdough and I use unsalted all natural butter for my cookies. Plus, i use pink Himalayan salt for all baking as well.
4. I do not use 100% organic ingredients, but I do try and get the best ingredients that I can. Some things I have to buy organic but other things there really is no difference but price. I try and always purchase the least processed and least chemically additive food that I can buy because I care about what we put into our bodies. All ingredients are shown on the back of each bag so you know what I use and what's in my product.
5. Sourdough takes a long time, not only do I have to feed my two starters every other day to make sure they are in tip top shape to make bread but once its a dough it has to bulk rise for anywhere between 6-10 hours depending on temperature. Then after shaping is concluded it goes into my fridge for 24-48 hours before baking. -the longer it sits in the fridge the more sour the bread will taste-
6. A lot of my ingredients are home made. If I don't like the amount of additives to food that don't need it, I make it myself. I make brown sugar, vanilla, butter, caramel. I am thinking about making my own chocolate chips too, we will see 😁
7. I love supporting other local small businesses! As a bakery I go through a lot of eggs and between my family's chickens and clara mae's chickens they keep me out of the grocery store.
8. I make all my own labels, I design and print and cut and place every single label for my products. Why? Because it matters to me for everything to be authentically me.
9. Left over food from the stand is donated. I bring the left over cookies and bread to other local business around town to show my support for them as much as they do me. Also I am working with Fish in Ellensburg to be able to donate bread to thier kitchen as well.
10. Breadhouse on woodhouse has been open for one whole year! I started this process almost two years ago but we have been officially open for business to the public for one full year on July 16th!
I just want to say thank you to everyone who comes and supports me. Breadhouse may be a lot of manual labor but it brings me a lot of joy and I love supporting our community with good products.
