Fat Tuesday is National Paczki Day!
National Paczki (pronounced "punch key") Day is celebrated on "Fat Tuesday", the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. Paczki are super-rich yeast raised Polish pastries. Traditionally, Paczki were made to use all the lard, sugar and fruit in the house. What a treat! You don't have to be Polish to celebrate National Paczki Day.

"My father grew up at 666 Maple Ave in Elizabeth, NJ and we moved to Florida in 1962 when I was six months old. During my childhood he used to get cheese babkas from family members from somewhere around there and I never knew where. They had chunks of a wonderful cheese in them that gave them such a wonderful texture and flavor when you toasted a slice. I never found anything close to it in Florida and believe me, I looked. Your cheese babka brought back all of those memories for me and I wanted to thank you.

Happy Easter!

We have the nicest customers! Here is an email we received today. Sharing the babka love!
"Thank you for the four delicious Babkas I ordered. They arrived today! I wanted to let you know why I ordered four 1lb Cheese Babkas....I live in a 55+ community in Florida and with all that is going on in our country right now and people "social distancing", I felt my neighbors needed a little cheering up. What is the best way to cheer people up, "comfort food". My neighbors are from NJ, NY and PA and all have Eastern European heritage. As kids, they grew up on this type of food - unfortunately, many of us have gotten away from the traditions our grandparents practiced. And with Easter and Passover coming, we probably won't be able to get together and celebrate the holidays together. So, I decided to bring a little of the holiday food to them. The second order I placed is going to my son who is a police officer in Atlanta....he can't wait for it to arrive.
I had smiling faces when I made my deliveries today - of course at an acceptable distance. Some have already posted pictures of the Babka on Facebook with a nice thank you note. So, please keep baking and we will keep ordering."

IRISH SODA BREAD
ST. PATRICK'S DAY TREAT
About a century and half ago, it was common for people in parts of rural Ireland to make bread using baking soda rather than yeast to leaven the bread, hence the name.
