Our HomeZada team started our company because we, too, had challenges managing our homes. We did not know where the money was going to keep our homes functioning. We did not know what we owned specifically. So we did not know how to document everything in case something potentially bad happened. We did not know what maintenance tasks needed to be completed in order to take care of our homes. And boy, did these tasks add up. Who’s got the memory for all those tasks?? What about remodeling? We were so frustrated with the lack of tools to help document and manage remodeling tasks, we often avoided remodeling projects altogether. Why did we need 5 - 20 separate systems to manage our homes? There had to be a way to be more informed and better organized to manage the costs and the value of our homes. Therefore, we created HomeZada, an online and mobile digital home management platform that manages home details like a home inventory, a home maintenance schedule, projects, and home finances. All to help you (and us) become smarter homeowners. We didn’t stop there. We realized that many professionals also found value in HomeZada. So, we added HomeZada Professional, which provides insurance and mortgage companies, real estate agents, builders, property managers, home inventory experts and professional organizers the ability to improve and differentiate their service and build long-term client loyalty. By providing richer customer engagement to help homeowners, our professional partners get increased retention and referrals from their clients. Our team at HomeZada wanted to fill a need that did not exist. Now we can help homeowners become the most informed so that they can make the best decisions for their home, their finances and their time. Sign up now ➡️ secure.homezada.com/users/sign_up

Moving from Florida to Colorado?

Your furniture can make the trip unchanged. Your home-maintenance routine cannot.

The tasks that mattered in your last home may be completely different in the new one. You could be trading hurricane preparation and humidity control for frozen-pipe prevention, snow removal, and furnace maintenance.

Before settling into the new routine:
✓ Learn the major weather risks
✓ Check the HVAC, insulation, roof, gutters, and drainage
✓ Update seasonal maintenance reminders
✓ Review insurance for the new area
✓ Plan for different heating, cooling, and upkeep costs
✓ Build a trusted local contractor list

HomeZada helps you keep those tasks, expenses, documents, and service contacts together—so your new home is not managed using an old set of assumptions.

Save this checklist for your next move, and tell us: What maintenance responsibility surprised you most after relocating?

Renting Out Property? Protect It Before the Lease Is Signed.📝

If you're managing a long-term rental, documenting the condition of the home before move-in is a smart risk control move.

Photos are good—but a quick walkthrough video gives clearer context, shows details, and captures the full condition in one shot.

It’s fast, thorough, and easy to reference if questions come up months later.

With HomeZada, you can store that video with your property records—so you always have proof when it matters most.

Use tech to work smarter—not harder. Start documenting your rental properties with HomeZada.

The worst time to look for your main water shutoff valve?

When water is already leaking.

It sounds obvious — until you realize how many homeowners have no idea where theirs is.

A dripping faucet is one thing.

But a leak behind a wall, in the ceiling, under the house, or near a pipe fitting can turn into a much bigger problem fast.

That is why every homeowner should know where the main water shutoff valve is before there is an emergency.

Here is your simple homeowner safety check:

✅ Find the main water shutoff valve
✅ Make sure you know how to turn it off
✅ Take a photo
✅ Show your spouse, partner, kids, or anyone else living in the house
✅ Store the details somewhere easy to find

Because when water is moving, panic is not a plan. 😬

Beth and John talk through this important homeowner safety tip in Episode 37 of Be a Smarter Homeowner.

Your car has a documented history. Why doesn’t your home?

Repairs get completed. Systems are replaced. Rooms are renovated. But when those records are scattered—or never captured—the history behind your home’s care and value can disappear.

Think of HomeZada as a Carfax-style record for your home: one place to track maintenance, improvements, expenses, documents, and other details that tell its story.

Your home is likely worth far more than your car. Its history deserves better than a drawer full of receipts. 👇

If you had to account for everything in your home after a fire, theft, or other emergency, would you know where to begin?

Creating a home inventory can feel overwhelming—but waiting until you need one is far worse.

In Part 3 of our home inventory series, Robyn Reynolds of Organize2Harmonize joins HomeZada’s Beth Dodson to explain:

✅ How to prepare before you begin
✅ Who can help you create your inventory
✅ Ways to make professional help fit your budget

A home inventory doesn’t have to happen all at once. The important thing is to start before you’re forced to reconstruct everything from memory.

This made us think about everything a family may suddenly need to figure out about a home — not just what’s in the closets.

Where are the important documents? Who services the HVAC? Is there a record of repairs? Where is the insurance information?

Nancy Traylor, Declutter and Organize Your Way to Peace has good advice for that overwhelming first step: you don’t have to figure out the entire house at once.

Walking into your parents’ house after they’re gone can feel completely overwhelming.

There’s so much stuff.

And every room seems to bring another decision:

Keep it?
Give it to family?
Donate it?
Sell it?
Throw it away?

But you don’t need to start making those decisions yet.

Before you start pulling things out of closets or filling trash bags, walk through the entire house.

Look for anything that needs immediate attention.

Then talk with your family about what they want.

And only then choose ONE room to begin.

You don’t need to figure out the entire house.

You need to know where to start.

When you’re dealing with 50 years of someone else’s belongings, you need a plan before you need a trash bag.

HomeZada co-founder Beth Dodson had a system that worked fine — until she thought it through. Her husband John was the one who knew where the water main was, which breaker fed which room, how the gas line shut off. She didn't. And the gap only mattered on the day it would actually count: if something happened and he wasn't there to walk her through it over the phone.

Her fix was simple. She had John record himself, on camera, shutting off each system — water, electric, gas, irrigation — narrating what he was doing as he did it. Those videos live in HomeZada now, sorted by category, so either of them can pull up the exact answer in under a minute.

It's a small habit with an outsized payoff: the difference between standing over a spreading leak trying to remember instructions and knowing exactly where to go.

Who in your household would know what to do if you weren't around?
