When we moved here from Alaska in 2011 I decided to retire early. However, I was not happy sitting at home so I started volunteering, mostly in the local LGBTQIA2 community. I have volunteered and/or been on the boards of many local orgs(Cimarron Alliance, PFLAG OKC, YES, OKC Pride, Edmond Pride, Homeless Alliance/Be the Change, etc) since but I became disenchanted with the politics and infighting

. People seem to like it so, in December 2016(the timing after the election is more than coincidental), MamaDawn Bakes was born. (Shout out to Emma at for being the inspiration to do this on Facebook. Thank you for all you do!)

50% of all my sales for the whole month gets donated + any tips. I don’t do this to make money. I use high quality ingredients; real butter, sugar, vanilla, organic eggs and dairy, unbleached flour, and I even make my own vanilla. I do this because it makes me happy to give. It gives me the opportunity to support local Oklahoma non profits. Especially the ones that focus on the most disenfranchised among us; social justice, lgbtqia, animal, homelessness, and children. Trust me, I don’t kid myself. My impact is tiny, even minuscule. I’m doing what I can and it would be awesome to inspire others to do the same. I have bigger dreams for this venture so we will see where it leads.
