How CUTE are these? 🍩💕

I made these little royal icing transfers for a custom order and immediately thought that they would make the cutest sprinkles! So of course, I had to make that happen.

If you missed my little hint a few weeks ago, I’m slowly working on a custom sprinkle collection and donuts will definitely be included!

Let’s talk about the things that are actually worth spending a little extra money on when you bake 👏🏼

There are definitely places where you can save money, but there are also a few things where I’ve learned that investing in quality really does make a difference — whether you’re baking for fun or running a business.

Here are a few of my “worth every penny” baking investments:

1. KitchenAid Mixer
If you bake regularly, this is one of those investments that pays for itself. It saves time, handles larger batches with ease, and gives you consistent results — especially when you’re baking frequently or making multiple batches at once.

2. A good vanilla extract + vanilla bean paste
You really can taste the difference! Good vanilla adds so much depth to your baked goods, and vanilla bean paste gives you that extra-rich flavor and those pretty little vanilla specks.

3. Nice packaging
Presentation matters! I know some people don’t care about it, but I do. Your packaging is part of the experience, and beautiful, sturdy packaging makes your products feel even more special.

4. A heat sealer
One of those things you don’t realize you need until you have one — and then you wonder how you ever lived without it. Heat sealing gives your packaging a clean, professional finish and helps keep everything fresh.

5. Good baking sheets
Not all baking sheets are created equal! Good-quality pans help with even baking and consistent results, which is especially important when you’re making dozens of cookies at a time.

6. Good sprinkles
Because sprinkles are not just sprinkles. The right colors, shapes, quality, and mix can completely change the look and taste of a cookie or dessert. And let’s be honest, you can never have too many 😉

The shirt proofs are officially here, and I’m SO excited to see these come to life! 🥹 A huge shout out to Damin Printing Company, LLC for bringing the design together!

This will be the first round of Dough by Jami shirts, and I’m already working on another design — a simple Dough by Jami logo shirt that will be coming soon, too!

If you’re interested in a shirt from this first round, comment below or send me a message with your size and preferred color! I’ll be taking interest through Sunday, 8/30, so I can send the quantities over and get a final price.

Happy Monday! I have a lot of new followers, so I wanted to take some time to re-introduce myself to those of you who may not know me 🩷

I’m Jami, and I’m the girl behind the sweets!

I’m a self-taught baker, licensed by the PA Department of Agriculture, and I do all of my baking right out of my home. I specialize in decorated sugar cookies with royal icing, but I also make a variety of other cookies, sweets, and desserts.

I’ve done my fair share of cakes and cupcakes over the years, and while I absolutely loved creating them, I decided to step away from them for a little while. Right now, I’m still undecided about whether cakes and cupcakes will make their way back into my regular offerings, so I’m giving myself some time to figure out what makes the most sense for me, my business, and the direction I want to take things.

I may be a one-woman show, but that doesn’t mean I do it all completely on my own. I do the baking, decorating, planning, ordering, packaging, cleaning… basically all of the behind-the-scenes work that comes with running a small business. But during the busy seasons, my husband, family members, and my friends are a HUGE help.

Folding boxes, making ingredient runs, helping set up for classes and events, carrying all the heavy stuff, and jumping in wherever they’re needed are just a few of the things they’ve become pretty good at over the years 😉 So while you may see my name on the business, there’s definitely a little team behind the scenes helping me keep it all moving — and I’m incredibly thankful for them ❤️

I have a huge passion for baking and especially love developing new cookie flavors! You can always count on me for fun flavor combinations, a little creativity, and extra sprinkles 😋

From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU for all of the support. Your orders, referrals, shares, and kind words mean more to me than you probably realize. I love being able to be a small part of your special occasions through the cookies and sweets that I make.

This sweet bride was truly such a joy to work with. From our very first conversation, she was kind and trusting of my experience. And while I’m always grateful when someone chooses Dough by Jami, there’s something that means even more to me than the order itself: being trusted.

I wanted to take a moment to gently address something that comes up from time to time — pricing for custom cookies.

First, I want to be very clear: this post is in no way calling anyone out. I’m not talking about any specific person, baker, or situation. I simply want to give a little insight into why decorated cookies and other handmade baked goods are priced the way they are, because I think it’s easy to see the finished product without seeing everything that goes into it.

I realize custom cookies aren’t in everyone’s budget — and that’s okay. There will always be someone who can offer something similar for less, and I completely understand that sometimes price is the deciding factor. Some people may choose a less experienced baker or a more mass-produced option, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

But I also want to be honest about why I don’t lower my prices just to compete. In the past, I’ve had a few people question why my cookies are so expensive. And honestly, it made me stop and think about how easy it is to look at a dozen cookies and only see cookies.

My cookies are handmade, one order at a time. Every set is made specifically for you — not pulled off an assembly line. And this applies to so many other baked goods, too. A cake, cupcakes, brownies, other decorated treats — the price isn’t just for the ingredients that go into them.

I can’t compete with mass production, and honestly, I don’t want to. I’d rather stand behind the quality of what I make and charge a price that allows me to continue doing it well.

I’ll be honest — I’ve gone back and forth with myself SO many times about pricing. I’ve questioned whether I’m charging too much, wondered if people will think my cookies are too expensive, and debated whether I should lower my prices just to make them more accessible. But at the end of the day, I have to remind myself that my work is worth it. The hours of planning, baking, decorating, and packaging — the price of ingredients, the experience I’ve gained, the skills I’ve worked hard to develop, and the time away from my family all have value.

If you choose Dough by Jami, you’re not just paying for cookies. You’re supporting a small business, a self-taught baker who has spent a lot of time perfecting her craft, and a handmade product created specifically for you.

If I’m not within your budget, I truly understand. There are options for everyone, and there are no hard feelings 🫶🏻 But I will never apologize for charging what my time, talent, ingredients, experience, and work are worth 🍪

And if you’ve ever wondered why handmade baked goods cost what they do, I hope this gives you a little glimpse behind the scenes. There will always be someone who charges less. My goal isn’t to be the cheapest. My goal is to create something I’m proud to put my name on 🥹🩷
