Hey you! yes, you, scrolling through social media rather than paying attention in class. We are not holding a regular meeting tonight at 7:30, we're holding a ~fun~ meeting tonight at 7:30 (just kidding all our meetings are fun) BUT this one is extra fun because we are going to be eating pizza and watching some Al Gore film. An Inconvenient Truth. Or the sequel. It's unclear. Anyways, bring a friend, bring a drink, brink a blanket, bring a snuggie, but come relax with us for 90 minutes of your day. We're meeting in our normal room, Lake Huron on the 3rd floor of the MSU Union πŸ•πŸŽ₯🎞️

Sustainability Sunday
-bringing you a weekly tip to live your life in a more sustainable manner 😊

The United States has a serious problem with food waste (we're talking 60 million TONS of produce being thrown out every year). To combat that, each of us can be more proactive in how we shop and how we eat. If you primarily eat in a cafeteria on campus, take smaller potions and if you want more, get a second helping. It takes a small effort to have to stand up/wait in line a second time, but the collective rewards are huge. If you live off campus, make a grocery list. Make sure you are buying things that you need and will use, rather than things that will end up being tossed out 10 days later when you find it hiding behind a bottle of ketchup in the back of your fridge. Wait until all your perishable purchases have run out before you go back to the store. Little steps like these add up when we all practice them!

I am personally guilty of this. I go to a coffee shop, to study or meet with friends, and I forget to bring my own travel mug and end up using a paper one that can technically be recycled. The thing about recycling though is that it’s great, but it would be even better if the waste material never passed through our hands. Then it wouldn’t even need to be recycled. The average American goes through around 500 disposable cups a year πŸ™€ So join me in trying harder this semester to bring a travel mug with you to the coffee shop!!

This happened in Detroit this week. We will be calling our senators at our meeting on Wednesday in regards to the passing (or not passing) of DACA protections. Join us at 7:30 PM in the Lake Erie room of the MSU Union (3rd floor).

We had such a great time at our first annual Spring retreat! All our members gathered for a weekend of skill-building activities, playing in the snow, and learning about carbon neutrality. (And no, the car in the ditch was not a staged team-building activity πŸ˜…) We created a plan for the rest of the semester that will help establish our campaign at MSU. Thanks to our host Natalie Smith and all of the people who contributed to the planning, and all our awesome members who attended! πŸ’š
