Easter week at the bakery has always been joyful.

A chance for our chefs, bakers and pastry chefs to showcase their craft. Over the years, the bakery has been blessed with incredible talent. We are grateful. Thank you.

On Easter Sunday, the ritual of breaking bread together carries a meaning far beyond the table.

In a world of war, division, and disconnection, the act of breaking bread and sharing a meal becomes a simple yet powerful act of healing.

A chance to sit down and reflect on what truly matters.

I loved watching all of you break bread at the bakery this week. The conversations and smiles and laughter fill my cup.

At the Last Supper Jesus broke bread with his disciples as a gesture of love, sacrifice, and unity.

Deep in our hearts we know these things to be strong agents of change so needed today.

Breaking bread on Easter is about much more than physical nourishment- it is about remembrance and hope and renewal. May those take hold in all of us.

Happy Easter from all of us at the bakery.

Jay DePerno, our ever quotable co-captain of ESB is pretty famous for his sayings in our meetings. One thing he has often stated during all these years is: “The only constant in life is change.”

Today marks a sea change at the bakery.

After 12 years of service, our dear general manager Priscilla Pilon will move forward to a new chapter of her life.

The bakery will be 15 this summer and she has been by our side for 12 of those chapters. That kind of dedication and loyalty is nearly unheard of these days.

Her rise throughout the company from bakery counter associate to pastry chef, to General Manager is marked by a lot of sacrifice, hard work, and commitment to the highest standards of hospitality.

We have watched her beautiful daughters become young women. (That’s Liliana with Priscilla in the first photo)

Our debt of gratitude is deep.

As she closes the page today on this chapter of her life, we know, like the feeling of finishing a well-loved book, her presence will linger with the weight of everything and everyone that she touched.

Bravo, Priscilla, bravo! 🥂

Sunday Brunch at the bakery just got a little better.

We’re expanding our menu and our hours 8-2pm.

Let Sundays stretch a little longer-fresh bread, French pastries, coffee brewing, and the wood-fired oven working its magic on breakfast pizzas.

Sundays are for bakery love. ❤️

On this frigid snowy evening I thought it would be fun to speak-a about the Swedish concept of fika. 🇸🇪

Winter can feel oppressive at this time of the year and our Nordic friends have traditions that provide inspiration. They are masters at the art of seasonal surrender.

Fika is the ritual of taking a daily pause to enjoy a coffee and something sweet.

The phone gets put away and you take a moment to let the world temporarily slow down.

Once the sugar and caffeine hits you may find yourself thinking:

Fika in the morning, fika at noon, warm coffee and pastry, make a heart swoon.

Merry Christmas! Tidings of joy to all of you and peace to all peoples on Earth.

Yesterday as the line was winding long I took a moment to watch the beautiful unfolding of humanity at its best.

Many, many, years ago now I stood before this dilapidated building pondering whether or not to act upon this dream. In a daydream I saw the bustling, convivial scene that unfolded yesterday.

Watching our staff create a welcoming feeling for all who enter our doors is bringing Christmas consciousness to each day. Those of us who choose to serve in hospitality understand the importance of making people feel safe, valued, and nourished.

We are grateful to each of you who support us. You lift us up with your generous compliments on our food and service and your patience with our staff when the line stretches long (As one friend cheerfully said yesterday to me: “It’s part of the Elm Street experience.”

Jesus often shared meals in the Gospels. I’m convinced that sacred magic is created when we sit down together and break bread. The kind of stuff that can heal nations, repair broken relationships, and restore our world weary souls.

At the bakery, this Christmas consciousness is a chance to serve and spread warmth to others. It has always been our hope that you leave feeling restored with bakery love.

Merry Christmas friends. A day we pause and make our love visible. Keep it going now. That is the Christmas gift we can all use. ❤️🎁🎄
