What will the weather bring this weekend? There's been some fluctuation in prediction, which makes planning for the market a challenge, as well as getting our garden planted, but we're getting it done one pastry and one plant at a time using every last ray of sunshine! (and if the rains do come, it is much appreciated, not complaining)... Hoping for some sun on Friday and Saturday though - come see us at the market or bakery for Pastries and... Mushroom Soup; Prosciutto Onion or Spinach Artichoke Quiche; Blueberry Cornmeal Sour Cream Muffins; and Molasses Cookies! No Dessert this weekend or Biscuits & Gravy - we're a bit short staffed and Martha is making some cuts! Everything else is good to go and available for advance order at:

*On that subject, this Fourth of July falls on a Saturday and we will be even more short staffed than we are this weekend. Getting ahead of that challenge, for the first time in our history, we will be CLOSED midsummer at the bakery and farmers market on July 3rd & 4th. This was a tough call, but a relief to make it. Please mark your calendars and spread the word!

Aw yeah, asparagus! Along with rhubarb, we've started the growing season off with a bang, weaving these first (and sometimes favorite) crops into everything we can! It only makes sense after months without local produce - suddenly it's available and suddenly everything tastes just a little bit better. Hmm, interesting. We've pulled everything we can from our own garden and have been gathering extra from farmers, neighbors, friends, and family to keep things flush. Thank you all! This weekend you'll find the Rhubarb in the Muffins and the Asparagus in something good (details TBD, tarts perhaps?)... Soup will be Indian Red Lentil... Quiche flavors are Sausage Sweet Pepper or Potato Green Onion... Peanut Butter Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies... and for Dessert? Well shoot, it's not written on this little scrap of paper passed down from the head baker, and she's already in bed, so we'll all have to wait until morning on that one... There aren't too many photos from our early days at the Riverwalk Market Fair. In 2010, resources were limited: decent cell phone cameras were nonexistent, digital photography was still coming around, and all the quality pics were still being captured on 35mm film. Which means there has to be a photo album laying around somewhere! Fortunately we have a few, including one that had this gem from way back (you know it's an oldie because Martha is still working the stand!)... This Saturday, May 16th we're doing it again and kicking off our 16th season! Always a whirlwind, we hope to see you there - or/and at the bakery for other fine fare: Lemon Chicken with Greens Soup (back to one flavor with the change of seasons)... Ham Spinach or Asparagus Quiche... Maple Pecan Muffins... Lemon Sugar Cookies... and for Dessert: Rhubarb Custard Cake (by the slice, or a whole 8x8)... Time flies, but life is good.

East facing windows grace us on sunny days with magical moments of morning illumination that light the cafe so perfectly. It's exactly how you'd envision a little bakery in a little town during those gentle early morning hours - the only thing missing from the picture is you! Perhaps you'll find yourself in it this weekend with sunbathed pastries and maybe some... Thai Chicken or Tomato Basil Soup; Prosciutto Onion or Mushroom Goat Cheese Quiche; Everyday Cookies; Rhubarb Muffins(!); and Coconut Cream Pie! May Day! This Friday kicks off the month of May at the bakery, with lots of spring action leading up to it! Flowers are blooming, frogs are croaking, mushrooms are popping, and we are planting! Getting the garden going is always an exciting time filled with tradition and awe at what a tiny seed can become. We're planning another fantastic crop this year with a sweet lineup of unique varieties that will soon become the ultra fresh produce in our soups, quiche, sandwiches, salads, and even desserts! (maybe sooner than you think!) Speaking of... It's official: spring has sprung! And with that - while enjoying the change in weather - lots of spring chores! All things we enjoy of course, like uncovering perennials, preparing the garden, picking spring flowers for vases at the bakery, and even finding butterflies in the cilantro! But with all the springing and sprunging this week, we are running behind with our menu post for this upcoming April 24th and 25th weekend... Soups will be Chicken Wild Rice or African Peanut Stew (using the last of the winter spinach and sweet potato harvest from Waxwing Farm); Quiche flavors are Ham Mushroom or Spinach Artichoke; Chocolate Chip Toffee Sea Salt Cookies; Weird and Wonderful Banana Bread Muffins; and Cherry Pie for Dessert! Happy Tax Day! (said no one ever until now). We hope you all got the dirty deed done on time with massive refunds! If that's not the case, don't worry, you'll get another shot at it next year! And the year after that, and the year after that, and every year after that, forever! Was that a positive spin on a dreadful task? Not sure. But here's something that definitely is positive: our menu for this upcoming weekend! Yes! Soups will be... Kielbasa Potato and Kale or Rosemary White Bean; Quiche flavors are Bacon Chive or Broccoli Cheddar; Lemon Poppy Seed Muffins; Peanut Butter Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies; and for Dessert: Brownies! The maple trees are flowing well again this spring and Martha's dad Gary has been hard at work tapping, collecting, evaporating, cooking, filtering, and bottling up the amber goodness. We have his super fresh 2026 vintage syrup for sale again at the bakery by the quart or pint, and to celebrate the occasion of its return, we are making Maple Cake for Dessert! Order a slice or two along with this other fine fare... Chipotle Chicken or Thai Carrot Soup; Prosciutto or Roasted Potato Goat Cheese Quiche; Bran Muffins; Lemon Sugar Cookies; and the usual assortment of most excellent pastries.

Top of the morning to you! We're posting a little earlier this week to remind you to place your Easter orders by the end of the day today (Wednesday)! Easter came up fast this year and we want to make sure you've got everything you need for a good celebration - whole Quiche are available to order with your choice of ingredients, as well as our usual line up of pastries and treats! (if you plan to order more than a half dozen of anything let us know so we can be sure to make enough!) Easter orders aside, here's the menu for this first weekend in April (although all of these can be ordered for Easter too)... Soups will be Beef Borscht or Creamy Broccoli; Quiche flavors are Ham Green Onion or Spinach Mushroom; Blueberry Cornmeal Sour Cream Muffins; Frosted Easter Egg Sugar Cookies; and Two Desserts: Carrot Cake Cupcakes or Chocolate Ganache with Espresso and Sea Salt Tarts!
