A fun experiment with this loaf, filled with local foods!
An easy choice you can make everyday is supporting local food producers, whether you go to a farm stand, a local bakery (like me!), or the co-op, we are incredibly lucky to have such amazing produce and products around us.
So, take this loaf….100% of the flour is grown in either Minnesota or Wisconsin and freshly milled at Meadowlark Mill and Farm or Baker's Field
This loaf had a combination of different wheat varieties as well as a scalded buckwheat flour added in for extra flavor and tenderness.
This loaf also has a sneaky vegetable hiding in it- rutabaga (from fieldstorehouse )! Roasted and mashed, it was mostly incorporated into the dough with some smaller pieces remaining. This added even more flavor, tenderness, and keeping quality to the bread.
A bit of Minnesota honey and poppyseeds (those aren’t local) to round it all out for an extremely unique loaf of bread for all you locavores out there.
A few small changes for next time, but always fun to try something new!
