🚨Update/Announcment🚨
I have some news that I would like to share with y’all which is not easy.
Despite selling 45K bagels in 6 months we aren’t doing as well as we had planned.
The reality is we haven’t made a dollar since November (no exaggeration). First we thought it was saving for Christmas gifts. Then, New Year’s resolutions and less people eating carbs. Following that was a horrible snow/ice storm that crippled us for two weeks. Now, we have a terrible economy.
On average we get 30-35 visitors a day. When you’re selling something for $5, that doesn’t get you very far. We have approximately $3,300-$3,800 in expenses a week at Bagel King. We average about $3,300 a week in gross sales (sales tax and tips included in this number).
For almost 5 months I started my day at 2:45am and had 16-17hr days. At some point we need to accept the reality that this may not be as popular as it once was.
I didn’t use a loan. I never swiped a credit card. Every dollar has come out of my own pocket.
With this being said. Our “busiest” days are Fri-Sun. Starting the week of May 4th, we will be switching our days of operations to Thursday through Sunday only.
About 25 of the 30-35 customers we see daily are our daily regulars. We appreciate y’all very much. The best thing we can do is hope everyone shares this post, tell your friends, family, and neighbors about us, and hope we can make it through this rough patch.
Extending hours will not help us. We have tried. The majority of our sales happen between 7:30am and 9am. Other than that time frame, it’s usually crickets.
Yes, we know that moving to a bigger space and offering breakfast sandwiches (eggs, bacon, sausage, etc) will increase sales and traffic, but it will also increase expenses.
If I can’t figure it out in a smaller location with minimal expenses, I do not want to gamble on a bigger location at this moment.
We appreciate each and every one of y’all and hope to serve you for a long time to come 🤞🏻.
