We want to help you keep your stored belongings safe and in good condition. Once your lock is in place, pest control inside your storage unit becomes your responsibility. Pests are drawn to quiet, undisturbed spaces that offer shelter from the elements — such as storage units, sheds, attics, and garages. To help protect your items, please review these preventive tips:
Preventive Measures
Clean items before storing: Make sure everything placed in your unit is free of dirt, crumbs, and residue.
Use airtight containers: Choose sturdy plastic bins with tight-fitting lids. Cardboard and fabric absorb moisture from the air.
Avoid storing wet items: Moisture can cause mold and mildew. Only store completely dry items and avoid moving in during rain.
If you must move in during rain: Space items out for ventilation and return in a few days to ensure everything has fully dried.
Elevate your belongings: Use shelves or pallets to keep items a few inches off the floor.
Do not store food: Avoid storing food, pet food, or anything with food residue.
Avoid scented products: Items like candles, shampoos, lotions, soaps, fabric softeners, and scented cleaners can attract pests.
Wrap furniture: Cover upholstered items and mattresses with heavy plastic covers.
Use deterrents: Natural repellents such as peppermint, tea tree, or cinnamon oil on cotton balls can help. Bait bags or traditional mouse traps may also be used as preventive measures.
Inspect your unit regularly: Visit periodically to check for pests or other concerns.
Do not store fuel or flammable materials: These items can be hazardous and may emit strong odors.
Use disc locks: We recommend disc locks for the best security.
Include your unit number on payments: This ensures your payment is processed correctly.
