There are road trips… and then there are quests.

Iowa has 83 state parks, hundreds of miles of trails, hidden overlooks, quiet campgrounds, and some of the best lakes in the Midwest. You could spend a lifetime exploring them all, or you could start with one weekend.

Choose Your Starter, Iowa Edition!

The Downtown Farmers’ Market is open 7 AM - 12 PM, rain or shine, and today’s big decision isn’t what to have for breakfast.

It’s choosing your starter.

🌱 Grass Type - The green Iowa topography map. Super effective against boring walls.

🔥 Fire Type - The red Iowa topography map. Known for high attack stats and dramatic entrances.

💧 Water Type - The blue Iowa topography map. Calm, collected, and probably knows Surf (Ballroom).

Each one is handcrafted, layered, and ready to begin its journey with a new Trainer.

⚠️ Professor Foundry’s Warning: If you sleep through your alarm and all three starters have already been claimed, don’t worry. We still have an Electric Type available.

It’s a field mouse that has corn tapped to it.

Today, we pause.

Not for the sales. Not for the long weekend. Not for the cookouts or the lake trips.

We pause for those who never made it home.

Memorial Day is stitched into quiet moments. Folded flags. Empty chairs. Stories told at kitchen tables. Names engraved in stone and carried in memory. Loved ones that are now memories.

At DSM Foundry, we spend our days creating pieces meant to preserve places, moments, and memories. Today reminds us there are some memories far bigger than ourselves. Sacrifices that shaped the freedoms we often move through without thinking twice.

BLOCKADE GATE UPDATE

After carefully reviewing our concerns, the DMPD took swift and decisive action by moving the barricades approximately 14 inches. Truly transformational infrastructure work happening before our eyes.

They even left the moving pole behind, which feels less like “helpful oversight” and more like a highly sophisticated sting operation. We’ve seen enough cop shows to know better than to touch it.

In unrelated news, access to DSM Foundry now includes a complimentary obstacle course and light urban navigation challenge. Be Found at DSM Foundry, if you can make it through Blockade Gate™.

Also, huge shout out to our neighbors at Chubby.pug.cheese for being absolute legends and letting customers walk through their tent so people can still get to us without needing mountaineering gear and a city permit. Support good neighbors, buy dog treats, and tell them DSM Foundry sent you.

Downtown Des Moines Farmers Market update:

Our products got so hot this morning that DMPD apparently installed anti-theft barricades directly in front of our booth. 🚔🔥

We’re choosing to interpret this as a compliment.

Come browse handcrafted travel maps, national park passports, stadium trackers, bathymetric lake maps, colorful topography art, and our dangerously adorable coloring boards before the city decides we need a full perimeter.
