What’s the toughest part of a bakery business?

The hard work comes all at once 😮‍💨 We’re constantly in the kitchen baking current cake orders while conceptualizing & booking future orders!

It’s a rush and I totally love being a busy baker, even when it’s hard. But, how are we supposed to keep calm, fulfill this weeks cake orders, and book new orders while up to our elbows in cake batter?

Organization and standardization! Here’s how I stay on top of it all:

+ I look at the upcoming month of orders and pre-order supplies. After I know I have everything on hand, I only look at my schedule one week at a time to keep the overwhelm at bay.

+ I write out a schedule on Sunday of each week. I write in every baking task and break them up into the days of the week (even if I end up editing down each day’s task list as I work on them)

+ I don’t take calls that aren’t scheduled. Customers submit inquiries through my website and we schedule consultation calls or even complete the entire booking process through email. This way I can focus on baking in the kitchen and booking new orders at a designated time.

+ I use my consultation guide for every inquiry, whether it’s a call or email consultation. This ensures that even when I’m busy, I am giving consistent customer service & comprehensive cake consultations from the first interaction!

+ I use my editable estimate sheet to quickly send of branded itemized invoices to my customers using the details I collected during the consultation!
