Not the cloud that drifts from the large mixer when Adam pours his sugar in too quickly (that stays relatively contained; besides, he claims that ONLY happens when Rosie's here)... 🙃😆

More like, we have NO FLOOR!

Which has been said of us before - but today, it's absolutely true. Late yesterday, our vinyl flooring was removed! 😇

Apparently, it wasn't meant to withhold rigorous daily mopping. 😅

Some is actually being repurposed! Which we absolutely love...

The floors, tables, etc. are sanitized and CLEAN🧽🫧🪣, your meals will still be AMAZING 👌 (please just don't mind the appearance)!

It's Global Cat Day!

Pretty sure this isn't a cat, though... 😸🙃

Meet Doc - born in Sevier County, Tennessee (home of Dolly!) - short of that, we aren't sure what he actually is... 🥰

Doc and his five siblings were discovered as newborns with their mom, assumingly abandoned, in a tree trunk near a creek - a known flood zone! 🥹

Out of the incredible kindness of strangers, these babies got the care they needed and eventually made their way to Wisconsin...

As of yesterday, Doc is officially a part of our family! 🥳

They say it may take a few days for them to acclimate to their new surroundings - I'll tell you, this guy has already made himself right at home... 😅

So many thanks to all of the volunteers, fosters, and Lucky 7 Dog Rescue for getting him here... 🫶 ❤️🤙🐾

Shout-out to my fellow germophobes - it's Global Handwashing Day!

How does handwashing work?? 🫧

Soap is amphiphilic - one end attracts water, the other attracts fats and oils.

When you lather, soap molecules wedge into the lipid (fat) membranes of many (but not all) viruses and bacteria, pulling them apart and lifting them, so they can be rinsed away...

Graphic, huh? 🙃😅

Equally as important is SCRUBBING for a solid 20 seconds (sing "Happy Birthday" twice, or - since it's Dolly month... how about "Jolene"?) 😆😋

Rubbing your hands while lathering dislodges bacteria and organic matter. Pretty much: soap weakens germs, scrubbing more completely removes them...

If every person CORRECTLY and REGULARLY washed their hands, respiratory infections could drop by 16-21% (58% for those with weakened immune systems)! 😷

School absences from gastrointestinal illnesses could fall 29-57% 🥺

Happy Wednesday! ☀️

And Happy National Dessert Day!

Arguably the best part of a meal - and somehow, no matter how "stuffed" we are, there's usually a way to find space for it! 🍴

Part of this is due to "sensory-specific satiety."

As you eat a food, the pleasure you get declines, and you start to feel full...

Something entirely different appears (like this Pumpkin Cake 😍) - your brain's interest level resets - suddenly you've got room for more! 😋

We're biologically "hard-wired" for this, as it encourages dietary variety - if people only ate one food, they may miss out on nutrients found in others!

I'd also argue we're hard-wired for Sweets -

Enjoying even the tiniest dessert at the end of a meal triggers a release of dopamine just as your appetite is winding down, making your meal feel more "complete."

Going without this can feel more open-ended, which is why so many people end up grazing again later... 🍰🍪🤘🤙

Happy Tuesday! ☀️

In 1991, breast cancer survivor, Charlotte Haley, handed out thousands of cards with peach ribbons, saying -

"The National Cancer Institute's annual budget is $1.8 million, and only 5 percent goes to cancer prevention. Help us wake up our legislators and America by wearing this ribbon."

Self Magazine and Estee Lauder requested to collaborate, but Haley declined, fearing they were too corporate.

They pressed forward (after changing the color), and the pink ribbon became associated with breast cancer awareness.

Which HAS led to earlier detection and better survival rates...

But Charlotte was right. Products now "supporting" this cause may give little or NO support to research for a cure or patient care...

Or worse -

Some also contain ingredients / are made in ways that actually INCREASE risk of cancer overall!

Sending love, peace and strength to those fighting and in recovery... thoughts as well for the ones we've lost. 🫶🤙💕

Happy Saturday! ☀️

Today is World Homeless Day -

First observed 17 years ago, it encourages conversations about affordable housing, emergency shelters, healthcare access, employment opportunities, and social support systems.

It also emphasizes that everyone deserves safety, dignity, and a place to call home.

This Summer, there were an estimated 556 people experiencing homelessness in our County - 206 are unsheltered. This includes over a dozen 65+ individuals and 11 families...

I want to give a shoutout to Cathi Oreto @ Safe Haven Hope Center - who puts SO MUCH love and energy toward helping others, including those who have been turned away before.

She aims to reach the person and helps them set achievable goals to improve their situation.

Is any of this an easy fix? Sadly, no. But if we all supported each other, people like Cathi, what a better world it would be... 🌎🏡🫶🤙

We've used OUR imagination to create Dolly-inspired Drinks! A Menu of many flavors, with 50 cents from each drink sold being donated to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library! 📚💕

Dolly launched the Imagination Library in 1995, inspired by her father's inability to read and write. She wanted to ensure every young child in her community had access to books, regardless of their family's financial situation.

It now operates globally, and as of today, over 343 MILLION books have been gifted (over 3 million children are currently registered, including 1 in every 6 right here in the US). 🌎🇺🇸

By the time they turn five, each child in the program will have received up to 60 books! Fostering early literacy, and a lifelong love for reading... 🤓🤘🍂
