Happy Wednesday! ☔

Creating our own spice blends, like our Pumpkin Pie Spice (used in this here brand-new Coffee Cake 🎃☕👌), versus using pre-mixed, makes a huge difference in our desserts!

Having reviewed thousands of ingredient specs, and as a life-long baker, I can tell you - not every batch (even within the same brand) is not exactly the same!

It can vary for many reasons, based on production facility (or even by line), supplier differences, seasonal variations of the ingredients themselves, and so on. Freshness matters, too!

Of course, I can't tell you how we make ours... though you're certainly welcome to guess!

But if you are interested in making your own, I can at least get you close -
4 tsp Cinnamon, 2 tsp Ginger, 1 tsp Nutmeg, 1 tsp Allspice

If you want it a little "spicier," add some Cloves... 😋

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with a girl that said it's the first of September today! 😋

It's National Lemon Juice Day -

Something you may not know about lemons: scientifically, they're considered berries!

Just really large ones, I guess? 🍋😅

They're also a hybrid - a cross between two other fruits: the Citron (male) and Bitter Orange (female).

In ancient times, lemons were so rare, they were shown off as signs of prestige - Kings gave them out as gifts! 🎁

Not to brag or anything, but... we certainly go through a LOT of them here, between drinks and bakery! 🙃 💪👌

And we'd certainly love to serve some to you... 😝😋

Happy Thursday! ☀️

On this day in 1921 -

J. Emmett Clair, younger brother of John Clair (an officer at Acme Packing Company) was granted the franchise for the Acme (Green Bay) Packers to join the American Professional Football Association (APFA). 🏈

Two months later, when debt collectors arrived from NY and Chicago, the Clair brothers backed the Packers financially, and J. Emmett assumed active management, keeping the team alive! 🙌

But not for long, unfortunately. 🙃

At the end of the season, it was revealed the Packers used college players (under fake names 🥸) in a non-league game against Racine!

For violating league rules, J. Emmett Clair - who had since moved away from the area - agreed to withdraw from the franchise...

Luckily, Curly Lambeau quickly stepped in, apologized and paid the $250 franchise fee! NFL owners agreed to reinstate the Packers, with Curly as the team's new leader... 💚💛🤘🤙

To date, Dolly's Imagination Library has monthly mailed books to over 332 MILLION children across the US and other countries! 🌎📚

Happy Tuesday! ☀️

Our cat, Sunshine, woke me up at 12:30am today -

Sounded like she was chasing a toy around the house...

Half hour later, she jumps on top of me - whatever it was had come along with her.

I reach to touch her, and now I'm full of it, too! 😅

Somehow, she'd managed to get one of Adam's fancy new bug traps (8" sticks FULL of goo) completely stuck behind/under her back legs!

Pried off the trap, my hands and blankets now COVERED in tar. And her fur... 🥹

Half asleep, I attempted - twice - to bathe her with soapy water. That was fun. 🙃

Now between getting things ready for today, I'm googling "best ways to remove tar from my cat." 😼

In case you're wondering, seems to be a tie between olive oil and peanut butter... and since we open soon, suppose it's time for me to find out. 😆🙏 🤞🫶🤙

Last night I was invited to the Governor's Mansion for a Year of the Neighbor celebration!

(don't ask how I get so lucky, I haven't figured it out yet either... 😅)

I enjoyed the opportunity to visit with people from all over Wisconsin (while also helping myself to all of Tony's Bomb Pops)... 🤘😆😋

To my pleasant surprise, I even found a few actual neighbors! 🙃

It was great seeing Cathi and Savannah from Safe Haven Hope Center and Elizabeth from - both AMAZING organizations, doing really great things right here (for both people and pets) in Green Bay!

If you want to talk about kindness, respect, empathy and compassion, it's neighbors like these... 💜🥰
