Hello there! We're seeing some confusion asking why there's an ICE OUT OF MINNESOTA: DAY OF TRUTH & FREEDOM mass event on Friday, 1/23 and also a Free America Walkout on Tuesday, 1/20.

The 1/20 event is part of a national effort organized by the national Women's March organization. While we are aware of many events that day, we at Women's March Minnesota (a local, independent org, not part of any national structure) don't have an event planned that day--but still encourage you to participate if you'd like in a way that feels meaningful to you.

ICE OUT OF MINNESOTA ON 1/23: Following ICE's violent and lawless enforcement surge in Minnesota, including the murder of Renee Good last week, we're partnering with local groups for a massive unified statewide pause in daily economic activity on Friday, January 23.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
+ Mark your calendar: January 23
+ Make your plan to not work, shop or go to school on 1.23
+ Encourage your school, workplace, and community to stand with you
+ Use your voice: call, message, and speak publicly about why you are joining A Day of Truth and Freedom
+ Show up with your family, neighbors, and community to march and rally in downtown Minneapolis at 2PM (additional details forthcoming)

It is time to take a stand. Our country is a melting pot, it always has been. Our diversity is what makes us strong.
ICE is turning our state into a warzone. They are not following law. They are ignoring the most recent order by a federal judge. While we are trying to advise people of their constitutional rights, those same rights are being trampled.
The same week that Renee Good was killed by ICE in our streets, the father of my daughters boyfriend was detained by ICE at his immigration check-in. He was not yet a citizen, but he was doing the work. He had documents. He was doing regular check-ins with immigration at the Whipple building. In under 24 hours he was transferred to Texas. There has been very little communication. This is wrong!
I stand with immigrants. I am anti-ICE. I stand with LGBTQ. I stand with people of color. If you have a problem with that, find another baker.
