Howdy All!! Several months have passed and many new āfacesā here, so I thought I would (re)introduce myself and The Cottage Foodie. Iām Matt, the face behind The Cottage Foodie and fellow cottage food producer.
For the past 7 years, Iāve been immersed in the world of cottage food here in Minnesota with my cottage food biz, Sergeant Shortbread. My journey into baking began in a very unexpected way.
In December 2017, while on vacation in Hawaii, I had my first taste of an amazing shortbread cookie. The flavor was so incredible that I decided I wanted to bake my own rather than pay for shipping from Hawaii to Minneapolis. Hereās the twistāI had never baked anything before 2017 and didnāt even know how to use a mixer! And for a bit more background, I retired from the Army in 2015 after 23 years of service and no, food service was not my specialty in the military haha!
Fast forward to today: After 7 amazing years in the cottage food community, I've heard it time and againāmarketing and āgetting my name out thereā are top challenges for so many cottage food producers (CFPs).
