World Paddle Association - WPA The mission of the WPA is to provide a comprehensive voice, fair and equal access and organizational structure to Stand Up Paddling and paddle sports.

The ultimate goal of the World Paddle Association (WPA) is to provide a global standard for competitive Stand Up Paddle events leading to better experiences for all parties involved. The WPA is built around manufacturers, race directors and paddlers that give input and want to help in the future growth of all Stand Up Paddle sports. We look forward to the continued input from those that have the passion to provide a better experience.

The 28th Annual West Coast Paddlesports Hanohano Ocean Challenge Presented by to be held in Mission Bay, San Diego, Ca. on January 28th, 2023.

The Hanohano Ocean Challenge is one of the Longest Running Paddlesport Races in California (OC-1, Surfski, Traditional Paddleboard, Standup Paddleboard and Kayak) We’ve always had a great mix of top level professional athletes and beginners from ages 7-80.

PFD's and leashes are highly encouraged.

Important Notes on the event:

***Pre-Registration is highly suggested. It will help eliminate delays on race morning as well as cut down on paddler error while registering with our online format.

***PFD’s are required on all paddlecraft with the exception of Prone paddleboard. Leashes are suggested for use on the long course for OC-1’s and Surfski’s

***Food…Breakfast snack items and coffee will be available for free in the morning. Lunch will be an additional fee with menu items beginning at $5.00. Please bring cash. The lunch format allows us account for the increased number of mouths to feed while keeping your race fee low…Bring a water bottle, we will have water to fill them up.

***Raffle: Hanohano OCC still boasts the best Raffle west of the Mississippi…bring some dough and have a chance at a ton of great product from our sponsors and vendors. Special Thanks to our Presenting Partner Stellar Kayak and Ocean Flight for our Grand Prize, a brand new Stellar Surfski!

The WPA announces the 2023 Event Schedule presented by Salt Life. The schedule kicks off with the West Coast Paddle shop HanoHano Ocean Challenge on January 28th, Carolina Pro-Am presented by Salt Life & Infinity Surf on April 21-23, Carolina Cup on April 28-30th and then the SIC Gorge Challenge on July 21-23rd.
