Introducing the newest member of the Kuluntu team, Ashley Brooks! We are through the moon to have Ashley as our first official employee and bakery assistant. Ashley is a quick learner, has a great eye for detail and is very process-oriented (an incredibly helpful skill to have in a bakery!)

She is a fabulous baker and lover of food, an insanely talented and intuitive gardener, and has mad skills on the sewing machine. She is from Oak Cliff and has two adorable toddlers. Please give a warm welcome to Ashley when you see her at our pickups! We’re grateful to have you with us on this crazy ride, @ashlafbro💫

Just a few of the faces behind the Morning After Bake Box✨ Now that I’ve had some time to rest, I’m reflecting on how amazing this community is. At yesterday’s pickup, many of you shared about how important the fight for reproductive freedom is to you and how grateful you were for this initiative.

What’s difficult about this moment is how powerless many of us feel as we watch our bodily autonomy being stripped away. And this is just the beginning.

I think one important thing that we can do is to keep this conversation going and share with one another about our pain and fears surrounding the overturning of Roe v Wade. And when we share, we must also listen. There is a huge stigma around abortion and very little understanding of people’s experiences.

We’re in difficult times and that’s why community is crucial. Sending love & solidarity💛

Woah! We are blown away by the support for our Morning After Bake Boxes! We have eleven boxes left and orders close tomorrow (Monday) at 10 pm.

So many goodies in the bake box like these boobie macarons from @macandcream and uterus conchas from @masquepantx 💖

Thank y’all so much for standing up in support of reproductive justice and @teafund through the purchase of these boxes. If you would like to make a monetary donation to @teafund, you can donate directly to them or you can send a venmo to @kuluntu-bakery and put TEA Fund in the comments. We’ll send it over with our donation.

I also want to mention a few other organizations that are doing amazing work around reproductive justice here in Texas: @theafiyacenter @avowtexas @aclutx Check them out and get involved!

MORNING AFTER BAKE BOX✨

We believe that reproductive justice and access to healthcare is central to women and people with uteruses being able to live prosperous, healthy and equitable lives.

This coming week, we are uniting with local women bakers to offer a Morning After Bake Box, a box of nine handmade treats and an #abortionbouquet seed packet. This box is meant to be shared and to spark conversation and action.

Proceeds from the bake box will go to @teafund which provides emotional and financial support to people who are seeking abortion care.

The boxes will be sold as part of our Thursday Bake of the Week on June 2, and we will have an additional pickup location (for the box only) at CocoAndré on Friday, June 3 from 3-6 pm. Preorders go live on our website tomorrow at 10 am.

A BIG thank you to the powerful bakers, artists and supporting folks that are a part of this initiative. We are stronger together🤞❤️✊ @cymulcahy @demeterskitchen @wheat_and_wild @masquepantx @cocoandre_chocolatier @macandcream @handshakedrugs @fiveglue @goldie_flan

I took this weekend to reset and start to shift into the summer months. Baking slows down as people leave the city for vacation, and I am now at the point where I welcome the slower pace.

I realized that I’ve been going non-stop since last fall, both in my personal and professional life. And I’m exhausted😓 My goal now is to work towards a more balanced, healthy and restful life.

This is just on of the reasons why I’m thrilled to have an extra set of hands in the kitchen starting this week, when our first employee, Ashley, starts work with us. It’s an exciting step to take as a small business and for me in my professional journey. Thanks for being along for the ride through it all! We wouldn’t be at this stage if it wasn’t for y’all’s incredible support💖

P.S. Friendly reminder that our orders close tomorrow (Monday) at 10 pm! Head to the link in bio to order.

Our cinnamon rolls are one of our most popular items, and there’s still time to snag some for Thursday’s pickup!

We save all of our croissant dough scraps to create these cinnamony, buttery and not too sweet rolls. We also brown the butter in the frosting for a lovely nuttiness. Everyone has a preference when it comes to cinnamon rolls, but, to me, these are perfect.

Orders close tonight (Monday) at 10 pm!

Flour, water, salt✨ I often get asked what my favorite thing to bake is, and the answer will always be sourdough bread.

The fact that three ingredients can be transformed into something so delicious and nourishing amazes me every time I bake. It feels both magical and innate💫

We still have a few more loaves, pastries & granola available for our Thursday pickup. Makes for the perfect little Mother’s Day gift or brunch spread. Orders close tonight at 10 pm.

We’ve got a new pastry on the menu this week that I’m pretty stoked about. Introducing our cheesy artichoke & leek brioche bun!

I come from a family of artichoke lovers (we are from California, after all.) Our favorite way to eat them is steamed with melted butter for dipping. I remember the first time Warren came home to meet my family, we introduced him to artichokes. After we finished the meal, we realized that he had been eating the tough, non-meaty side of the leaf the whole time, and I still crack up thinking about it😂

Anywho! For this pastry, I took my great aunt’s artichoke dip, made a few little tweaks, and plopped it on our naturally leaves brioche. I hope y’all enjoy it as much as I do! Orders close tonight at 10 pm.

THE BEST BREAD IN EVERY STATE "The quiet revolution taking place within American bread baking may have predated the pandemic, but this strange moment saw the whole thing go wide. That hunger for outsourcing, coupled with bakers also being cooped up at home with time on their hands, led to an absolute explosion in the cottage baking industry, with some of the best bread many of us will have ever tried coming out of the kind of oven you can buy with a few clicks." Everything Starts With Us...🔥 Join us tomorrow morning 8:15am-9am CST for coffee & conversation with Stephanie Leichtle, founder Kuluntu Bakery & Her Texas founder Jasmin Brand. ☕️ Link below to access the zoom link: http://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tz0ucuivpjmtete6s1ah1agip8nm2bu_xjwm/ Born and raised in #CoppellTX, Stephanie's journey took her to NYC after graduating from Texas A&M University. Like most New Yorkers, she had a side hustle - baking! - which she did out of her Queens apartment. She soon began to sell her treats and eventually got formal training. At the end of 2017, Stephanie and her husband, who is from Johannesburg, South Africa, decided to pack up and move across the world to #CapeTown. This is where Kuluntu Bakery began. During their short time in Cape Town, Stephanie spent her time learning local recipes and ingredients and teaching bread making classes with several nonprofit organizations. They moved back to the Dallas area in July of 2018 and have been building a deliciously popular, #OakCliff based bakery & brand ever since. 💛 #HerTexas #femalefounders

Your online class has given me the confidence to keep on bread baking. My husband can probably rival Warren in the ability to eat a loaf in record time. 😂
If you're not planning to dine in at restaurants now, we don't blame you. Stick with cooking at home but support local eateries like Asian Mint, Sushi de Handroll and Kuluntu Bakery by buying some of their fun DIY meal and bread kits!
Thank you Stephanie Leichtle-Chalklen for a great sourdough bread baking class - making bread was so intimidating- you made the class fun & easy. This is my morning bread baking today. Thanks
Thanks for the class yesterday! It was a lot of fun. Even though my dough looked nothing like it should, I have actual bread today!
