Hey, Y'all!
I want to thank you for your support over the last year. So many of you have ordered cookies and cakes to share with your loved ones, and it has meant so much to me.
Due to recent health concerns, I've stopped baking indefinitely and am closing down the neighborly bakery. It was a very difficult decision, but the best decision for me. Thank you so much for bringing me your fantastic cake ideas- I am so glad that in my short time as a baker I got to make a rainbow unicorn cake, a Spongebob cake, an EDIBLE CHALKBOARD MATH CAKE! It was so much fun. I only regret not getting into my Baked Alaska and Jello Cake phase sooner!
One of my favorite things about baking is the way it connects us to our neighbors, our family, and our past selves. I don't think I've ever eaten a slice of chocolate cake without thinking about my Aunt Debo or that iconic scene from Matilda (my favorite childhood film), and every chocolate chip cookie brings back memories of my mom reading me to sleep with If You Give A Mouse A Cookie. I don't think that ever goes away, and it connects us to our loved ones even when they're no longer around.
Baking is something I picked up a couple of weeks after lockdown in 2020 because every grocery store was out of bread and I found a jar of baker's yeast. Every week it grew more and more into a therapeutic practice that helped me get through my darkest weeks in isolation, it turned into the one thing I could do while stuck inside, and it made people so happy in an otherwise terrible two years. It's a very hard thing for me to leave behind.
I'll leave this post up for about a month before removing this page, the website has already been taken down. Thank you again for your love and support ❤️
