I was born and raised in the south..... not only is that a slower and different way of life, we spent much of our time, with family cooking, canning and learning from the generations before us! Raised by a true southern Nanny, Sallie Lee Brown and Grandmother's Vera and Dollie, cooking was an art! A simple sandwich was a photo op and we had tea at 3! I have decided to share our secret family traditions with you, just not in written form!

I’m working on a Salty Hen cookbook!

Recently, I was talking with my middle-school best friend, Dana Lashell —my forever ride or die—about Christmas treats. Her mother, Mildred, and I shared a birthday, and my friend said, “I’m sending you a list of Mildred’s recipes.”

That gave me an idea I absolutely love.

I want to dedicate a special chapter of my cookbook to treasured recipes from our friends and families. You may submit a recipe from someone you love, name the recipe in their honor, and share a little story about the person behind it.

It can be a recipe from someone still with us or one shared posthumously to help preserve the memory of someone who has passed away.

Recipes have a beautiful way of keeping the people we love at our tables.

If you would like to contribute, please send:

In the Subject in all CAPS type Cookbook
The name you would like it published under
A short story or memory, if you’d like
A photograph of the person or finished dish, if available
Your name and relationship to them
What better way to honor someone than by sharing the food that made their family gatherings feel like home?
