A very interesting thing came in the mail today that i had purchased on Etsy for a tablescape.
It was called a Make Do Chopping Block. I must admit when I ordered it, I didnโt really realize what I was ordering. So when I opened the box, I was sort of scratching my head. I looked it over, and thought, now what was I thinking and how am I going to use this?!
It was a block of wood on three pegs with an old knife tucked into a leather strap on the side. I had never seen anything like this so I did a bit of research. I went back on to the Early Cabin Shop site and read about these primitive early American pieces that they made. How they made them exactly how they were constructed years ago. And how they chose each piece of wood for its character, rings and splits.
I mean, I was intrigued!
So, being a lover of all items that are unique and tell a story, I started looking at this block through the eyes of people from the 1800โs and how they fashioned utility items for important tasks around the farm and kitchen. Yโall, i fell in love with this crazy little peg-leg chopping block! That old knife on the side was so handy to store and have ready for use. And even though it is more primitive that I typically go for in my home, it has worked itโs way in to my heart and on to my table!
Do you have any pieces that took you by surprise when you ordered them but have since become something you canโt live without? Tell me about it!
