Thoughts on this week's storm...
Yes, that's our market tent in the photo that made its way around TikTok. Someone who recognized it shared the video with us. While it was hard to see, it also reminded us of what really mattered this week.
Was losing our tent, products, and supplies our worst nightmare? No.
Our worst nightmare would have been if someone had been hurt, if families had nowhere to cool off during the power outages, if neighbors couldn't find food, or if people had nowhere to charge their phones.
Thankfully, that wasn't our reality.
Instead, we witnessed an incredible community. Neighbors opened their homes. Businesses opened their doors. Community centers became places of refuge. Those fortunate enough to have power welcomed people in to cool off, charge devices, grab a bite to eat, and know they weren't alone.
Storms are inevitable. What defines a community is how it responds.
This week reminded us why we're so proud to call Crown Point and Northwest Indiana home. We watched strangers help strangers, clear debris, check on neighbors, and offer whatever they could. Yes, we lost some "stuff," but those losses are insignificant compared to the kindness, generosity, and resilience we witnessed.
At Great Harvest, we've always believed we're more than a bakery. Every day, anyone who walks through our doors is welcome to enjoy a free slice of fresh bread and butter—no purchase necessary. We offer free Wi-Fi, free coffee refills, and a warm, welcoming place for everyone.
That's not something we do only during a crisis—it's who we are.
To everyone who reached out, lent a hand, or simply showed kindness this week: thank you. You reminded us that the strength of a community isn't measured by what it loses in a storm, but by how it comes together afterward.
We're honored to be part of this community, and we'll always do our best to serve it—in the good times and the difficult ones. ❤️
