We’re excited to share our 2025 Sustainability Update!

This year’s update highlights our continued efforts to decrease greenhouse gas emissions, support our employee-owners, and partner with communities to promote recycling and composting. By transitioning to renewable and alternative fuels, generating renewable energy from collected landfill gas, and powering our facilities with renewable or carbon-free electricity, Recology is pushing the boundaries of sustainable resource recovery.

We will no longer be accepting #4 and #7 plastics in your recycling cart.

#1, #2, and #5 plastics are the only plastic materials that can go in your recycling cart along with clean and uncontaminated paper, cardboard, bottles, cans, aluminum, and glass. A good guide is that if it’s a hard plastic (meaning you have a hard time bending it, can’t poke through it easily, and can’t squish it into a ball), that plastic is usually recyclable.

In our communities, a hidden hazard is causing big problems: lithium-ion batteries.

You may not feel like you’re discarding many batteries these days, but lithium-ion batteries are in more places than you think! Often tucked inside e-cigarettes and vapes, kids’ toys, and power tools, these batteries—no matter how large or small—can spark fires, threaten our drivers, and harm the environment if they’re not discarded properly.

This , learn how to safely dispose of your batteries at recology.com/batterysafety.
