Honestly, today was a rough day for me as a baker. ❤️🩹
I've been working for about a month on getting edible images done for a special order, only to find out that they wouldn't be completed until tomorrow morning, which is past the deadline I needed them by. On top of that, I looked at my designs today and just felt like my colors weren't quite right and my cake pops weren't as cute as I had envisioned them.
The truth is, I don't always have the funds to bring every idea in my head to life or to invest in all the little extras that would allow me to take my designs to the next level. And as someone who wants so badly to create beautiful, unique things, that can be really discouraging sometimes.
There's so much I love about running a front porch bakery. I love creating, I love my customers, and I love seeing people come back for more. But there's a side of this little business that people don't always see, too. The days when we get in our own heads, compare our work to what we wish we could create, and feel like we've fallen short of the expectations we've set for ourselves.
I know my products taste good. I know that because I have customers who continue to come back, and that means more to me than I can explain. But sometimes, even when you know you're doing something right, it's hard not to focus on what you didn't do, what you couldn't afford to do, or what you wish you could have done better.
I think sometimes we put so much pressure on ourselves to make everything perfect that we forget how much work, love, and heart we're already putting into what we do.
So today, I'm giving myself a little grace. I'm reminding myself that I'm still learning, still growing, and still building something from the ground up. I may not always be able to create exactly what I picture in my head, but that doesn't mean I'm not capable, and it certainly doesn't mean I'm failing.
If you're a small business owner, a baker, an artist, or just someone working hard to build something you're proud of, I hope you give yourself that same grace, too. We're allowed to have rough days. We're allowed to be disappointed. And we're allowed to be proud of ourselves even when things don't turn out exactly how we planned. 🖤
One rough day doesn't define the business I'm building, and I'm going to keep showing up, learning, and creating. One little crumb at a time. 🤎🍰
