Dolce Designs by Amanda

Dolce Designs by Amanda Bakery coming in July 2026 to Covington, VA. To place an order before July, please message Amanda Sprouse at (540)968-0963 or via messenger.

Previously a home baker, I started decorating cakes when I was 10 years old. I perfected my skills when I worked as a grocery store baker, and I’ve created cakes in my spare time the over the past 20 years along with my fulltime teaching career. I'm finally able to make this passion my primary job starting in July! I consider myself a cake artist, specializing in buttercream designs and custom creations.

It's time to get excited!!! Dolce Designs by Amanda is coming BACK, and this time it's brick and mortar! I'm gearing up to open my bakery at 105 W. Edgemont Drive in Covington in July!

I'm still running my home-based bakery until then, so hit me up for orders in the meantime. Stay tuned for updates and announcements. I can't wait to see your smiling faces again!

PLEASE READ!

I’ve learned a ton about baking from home in Virginia this week- the Va Department of Agriculture was so helpful and friendly! In order for me to continue baking cakes out of my home within the exemption of section 3.2-5130 of the code of Virginia, I’m going to need to make a few tweaks to how I do things.

1. I will no longer be running a separate page to show off my cakes. If you’d like to talk to me about a cake, please message me on my personal page Tuell Sprouse, or call/text me at (540) 968-0963.

2. I will no longer be permitted to deliver or meet people. All cakes will need to be picked up at my home in Covington.

3. I will no longer be doing cakes for official school events.

4. I will no longer be permitted to make anything that requires refrigeration. My buttercream does not, but it will limit available fillings and no longer allow for whipped cream creations.

I will be closing this page on Monday, and messaging the folks that I already have a conversations started with on this page before I do so I will not lose your contact information.

I didn’t realize I wasn’t following all the state guidelines, and I want to continue doing what I love but on a smaller scale and by the book. Maybe in a few years I will decide to expand into the full home business, but now is not the right time in my life for that change. Thank you as always for your support!

Cakes this week-
1. tombstone cupcake cake- yellow cake with caramel filling and buttercream.
2. Red velvet with cream cheese, black chocolate drip, black buttercream decoration, rose gold lister dust sprinkle.

NOW…. I’m going to be real with you. Both of these orders did not go the way I wanted them to. I spend weeks thinking, planning, and visualizing all the steps I will take to create my cakes. And, I tend to be a perfectionist, so I like everything to go just the way I plan. 90% of the time, that usually happens. 10% happened this week. They’re still cute, but let me tell you “the rest of the story”…
1. It took me two tries to get my caramel filling to cooperate, which never happens.
2. The black icing I mixed for my tombstone cake didn’t cooperate the way I wanted, so I had to reimagine the writing style for the cake AND scrap and redo letters, which also never happens!
3. It took twice as long to get the consistency on my cream cheese icing, even though I’ve never had trouble before.
4. I purchased rose gold luster dust and had planned to spray the pink cake to make it metallic. I’ve done this several times before, and after 2 hours of fighting with the mixture and my airbrush, I had to give up and regroup.
5. My black ganache drip would NOT get to the correct drip consistency, which is why it looks thick and bubbles on the ends- I actually blame the humidity today a little for that one, but I’ve done several dozen drips with all colors and even metallic, and this hasn’t been an issue.
6. The buttercream I mixed for the name was grainy even though I sift all my sugar, again, it may be the humidity.

Moral of this story? Sometimes things don’t go the way you want, even with lots of planning, time, and experience. Even if something has ALWAYS gone right, it might not today. And it’s ok! We change, adapt, and make it the best we can given our circumstances. In the end, all we can do is our best! Well, I’m off to the kitchen- Happy Saturday!
