What is TARS?

TARS (Thrombocytopenia Absent Radius) Syndrome is a rare condition present at birth, characterized by missing radius bones in the forearms and low platelet levels, which affect blood clotting. This can lead to easy bruising, frequent nosebleeds, and in severe cases, life-threatening bleeding—especially during the first year of life. Individuals may also have skeletal differences such as curved or fused fingers and abnormalities in the arms, legs, or hips. Symptoms often improve over time. In Texas, April is recognized as TAR Syndrome Awareness Month.💙
