My heart is filled with joy! I had a wonderful group of special friends tonight. Not everyone wanted their pictures posted but 2 ladies did! This is what your financial support assists me to do! Our group made pizza, with their own homemade pizza dough and sauce! As you can see, nothing stops them from learning every step and making their own dinner…not even blindness! Along with their pizza they had a dinner salad and choice of soda or water. Tad made them his famous brownies with buttercream for dessert! The cost for each friend was $18. THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING TAD’S TASTY TREATS SO WE CAN CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THE SPECIAL FRIENDS IN OUR COMMUNITY!

Here’s a little preview of next week’s recipe! I have some of my chili for dinner tonight and was really wanting a savory bread to go with it! So off to the kitchen I went! I have a plain no sugar, low sodium loaf (58.12 mg of sodium per slice) and made a savory loaf WITH CHEDDAR CHEESE (94.12mg of sodium per slice)! Half of each loaf will be frozen to use later. For the record, regular store bought white bread has 123mg of sodium PER SLICE! I am limited to 2 grams of sodium per day (2,000mg)…I am not willing to use most of my sodium just on bread! Even my savory bread with cheese is less than plain white bread from the store! Stick with me friends…I’m going to help you enjoy eating right! Oh, and the chili recipe will go with these bread recipes next week!

As promised here's my first recipe drop for you to enjoy! Over the past few months I've learned that many of my followers and friends have been eager to help me get back on my feet to keep Tad's Tasty Treats going. Did you know that in addition to what you see offered in products and classes I also teach approximately 22 special friends cooking lessons at a greatly reduced price? Probably not. and I kind of liked it that way. I feel like it's my give back to the community I love! I love watching these groups of happy faces come to my house to learn and succeed at making their own meals and treats. This month the Pathway's groups will be making their own Pizza's and having a meal together! The price I charge might cover the cost of ingredients, but doesn't pay me. Sound business move? Definitely not, but if I don't teach them, who will? I don't believe I can say I want to help people with challenges if I don't jump in on the front lines. These people (as you would expect) are mostly low income and I never want to deny any of them lessons based on ability to pay. Sooooo, here I am, helping my loyal customers who have dietary challenges by posting free recipes for you to create at home. What's in it for me? The hope that you might drop a financial gift my way to keep Tad's Tasty Treats doing the work of training the special needs community. We too are low income (choosing to work with Tad for 30+ years has come at a high cost in having to leave my career) but I've never let that drive my desire to bless others.

Thank you for considering supporting this next step of our journey! Enjoy this first of many recipes...ask questions as needed. These Cinnamon Rolls are available to order for pick up Friday, January 10th. They are $4 each. We appreciate you all so much!

Low Sodium/Low Sugar Cinnamon Rolls
By Tad’s Tasty Treats

Ingredients:

4 ½ to 5 cups bread flour
¼ cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 packets of Rapid Rise Yeast
¼ cup vegetable oil
2 cups warm water (108 to 115 degrees)

Filling:
¼ cup packed light brown sugar
2-3 tbsp cinnamon
Half a stick of butter (about 4 tbsp) softened

Put all dry ingredients in bowl and stir slightly with dough hook (on mixer) or wooden spoon if making by hand. Add oil and water and mix until the dough comes to a ball away from the bowl of the mixer. If making by hand you will only be able to stir so long before you need to turn the dough out onto a well-floured surface to knead in the rest of the flour.

Once dough is elastic (when you poke it with your finger, it springs back) put dough in a well oiled or sprayed (with non-stick spray) bowl. Cover with a towel or plastic wrap and put in a warm place to rise until doubled in size.

Push down dough and turn onto a sprayed surface. with a rolling pin, roll out into roughly 15x8 rectangle. With your hand spread butter evenly over dough up to the last 2 inches of the dough. Mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon in a separate bowl and sprinkle over the butter. Roll the dough and cut into 12 pinwheels. Place on a well sprayed baking pan with sides and leave room for them to rise. Cover with a towel and let double in size. Bake at 375 degrees for 15 minutes; turn the pan around and bake an additional 6-8 minutes til golden brown.
Once cooled you can package them and freeze to pull out as wanted. I like to pop them into a 350 degree oven for about 5 minutes to enjoy each serving hot. Enjoy!

LONG POST BUT IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT OUR WINTER CHALLENGE!

What do each of these delicious items have in common??? They are rebranded to suit my need for a low sodium, low sugar, heart smart lifestyle!

As we get older we can develop health challenges. Last July I developed a 3 fold health crisis of stoke level blood pressure, congestive heart failure and a return of diabetes I’d had diet controlled for years! It was scary. It was eye-opening. But I was determined that it wasn’t going to force me into a life of boring, bland and uninviting meals! Let’s face it…I AM A GREAT COOK AND BAKER!😂🤣

The recipes I’m developing are a perfect dietary fit, but most important to me, I’m excited for meals because everything tastes so delicious!

So here’s what I decided to do: I’m going to post 1 recipe every Tuesday that can be ordered for pick up on Fridays. You will be able to see the item and it’s recipe and also be able to purchase them to reheat or freeze to have at your convenience. I am the queen of not taking the time to care for myself…but I can’t help anyone now if I don’t take care of myself! So this is the fastest way I can get recipes to my cooking/baking friends who face health challenges like me! More importantly as a business owner I can get great food to my friends that have that cozy, homemade feel you love…prepared with your dietary needs in mind! Please support this Winter Business challenge I’ve given myself. Yes, you’ll get the recipes for free, but my hope is that many will choose to order products to try or to make life easier for busy working friends! Tad is ALWAYS ready to make his cookies, brownies and sweet breads whenever you want so reach out for those as well. You may also see me offer classes of dishes you can make to take home! And that’s a wrap for Tad and me until January 2nd! My kids that choose to be here arrive tonight and then Christmas for me begins! We’ll be nibbling and feasting, chatting and singing, hosting and playing games! On the 28th we will get to celebrate the wedding of 2 of my former students from The Corcoran Academy of Fine Arts! May your hearts be filled with love and thankfulness just as we are so thankful for you dear customers! Taking it out with a bang! Tonight is our last Holiday Cookie Class and they made a dinner/decorating reservation! The ladies will dine on beef stew, salad and applesauce, then decorate their Cookies! Tad and I have LOVED hosting these classes and they have been well received by the community!
