Some clarification as to what we serve at our wee cafe in Clayton. We do not serve lunch, we do serve Cream Teas. We do not serve Afternoon Tea (if we did, these are almost always reservation only wherever you go so if you would like to have an Afternoon Tea somewhere (and you should, they are such fun!) please call and make a reservation first so you are not disappointed when you get there to find out they can’t accommodate you!
We do have grab and go items to take home and enjoy from our award winning pimento cheese, tomato Basil soup and chicken salad plus Gordal Olives and more. Our sourdough bread is made by our friend Brett and now available on Fridays. We also carry items from makers in Scotland, mostly small business owners that we personally know and support!
Here is a wee “Tea in Scotland & England” blether from us here at FarmHouse PoundCakes ☕️🏴
We’ve realized that many people in the U.S. aren’t always familiar with the different types of tea service, so we thought it might be helpful (and fun!) to explain what we offer here in Clayton.
✨ Cream Tea
A traditional cream tea includes:
• A pot of tea
• Fresh baked scones
• Clotted cream
• Jam
This is what we currently offer at our Clayton location and it’s one of our favorite cozy Scottish-inspired treats.
✨ Afternoon Tea
This is the more elaborate three-tiered tea service many people picture:
• Finger sandwiches
• Scones with clotted cream & jam
• Assorted desserts & sweets
Afternoon tea is typically reservation-based anywhere you go, as it requires advance preparation and presentation.
✨ High Tea
Interestingly, high tea was actually not the fanciest tea! Historically, it was a heartier evening meal enjoyed by the servants at higher tables in the kitchen after serving, often including savory foods. Now, it’s generally a heartier Afternoon Tea and usually served later in the day.
That being said, even in the UK this can vary!
Our Clayton shop is currently a cozy bakery offering pound cakes, scones, grab-and-go items, Cream Tea service, tea, coffee, and Scottish-inspired provisions. We are not a full-service lunch restaurant or traditional afternoon tea room at this location and never have been.
For Cream Teas with more than 3 guests, we highly recommend calling ahead so we can prepare and make your visit extra lovely. 💕
Thank you all so much for supporting our little Scottish-inspired bakery in the mountains of North Georgia. We love sharing these traditions with you!
