Bakery announcement! 📣 Starting in February, I’ll be doing only 2 bread drops per month!

This is a temporary change, but a necessary one. Everything else is staying the same… customers, you’ll just need to stock up! 🥖🥖🥖

I’m so thankful for each of you + the gift of being your baker! If you have any questions about how it will work, shoot me a message 🥰✨

P.S. this may be sad news, but happy news is that the Raspberry Lemon scone is coming back to the menu! 🍋💕

I’ll be there with fresh sourdough bread! 🎄🍞

We are having some fun! The Chewelah Farmers Market and Chew-ville, complete with the Grinch and the Mayor, are neighbors all day, full of shenanigans! Artisans, music, good food, Christmas tree raffles, and tractor rides around town to business specials....An altogether fun Christmassy day in Chewelah! A fun day for all!
Photo-op opportunities, and make-your-own ornament to add to the community tree, and at 4pm, we're lighting it up!

Washington is one of the most difficult states to run a cottage food operation (AKA: a micro-bakery, like mine!)

But we’re on the path to improve this law, and make it actually reasonable to operate a bakery from your home (without changing the food safety requirements!)

If you run a cottage food operation, please help us by filling out a 3-minute survey. This helps us SO MUCH in gathering support to pass a new bill to improve Cottage Food Law in our state!

Let’s ask the bigger question... 💭

WHY are so many people disconnected from their food? Maybe it’s because they’ve been brainwashed into thinking food can only come from a box-chain store 👀

if you immediately reject an industry because real people made your food instead of a machine… I question your judgment 🤷🏼‍♀️

So let me educate you on Cottage Food Operations (in WA state):
- We are held to food safety requirements (food worker card, inspections, sanitation, etc.)
- We’re very limited on what we can produce/sell— only what is “shelf stable.”
- We’re required to have proper product labels all with the disclaimer statement that it was made in a home kitchen.

And personally, I think those requirements are reasonable and good 🙌🏼

Here’s what’s NOT good (and what we’re trying to improve in our state’s law!)👇🏼
- The $35k (gross) annual income cap (while we live in the 10th most expensive state in the U.S.)
- Prohibiting to sell our products wholesale/retail
- And the intensive & expensive process for amending your license (like adding a new product to your menu)

But I’m not here to complain about this 😘

We’re working on a new bill to reform the WA state Cottage Food Law and get more homemade goods on family’s tables 🫶🏻

Share this if you if love your local cottage baker & want to make it easier for them to bake!

We are working on a new bill to improve this law, and we need your help! (You can be a cottage food operator from ANY state to participate!)

I’ve created a 3 minute survey to hear your story & experience 👉🏼 https://www.madebybecca.net/wacottagefoodlaw

⚠️ If you are a COTTAGE FOOD OPERATION in Washington state ⚠️ The current Cottage Food Law in Washington state makes it incredibly restrictive for businesses to share their homemade goods with their communities.

But we're striving to improve this law! If you are a cottage food operation in ANY state, please share your story with us by completing this 3 minute survey! 👇🏼

Depending on what state you're in, cottage food law can be incredibly restricting. In Washington (my state), it makes it impossible to earn a living wage from your cottage food business without supplemental income. And there is more we can improve as well.

If you run a cottage food operation (or know someone who does!) in Washington state, stay in contact with us! Survey will be coming soon to gather your stories & opinions on Cottage Food Law

Made By Becca is a young woman running an artisan bread bakery out of her home using Washington’s cottage food law. She requested a meeting to discuss how the law could be improved to make more sense, be easier to use, and allow people to provide more food for their customers. She has connected with others doing similar work across the country and told me stories of women who have been able to support their families and care for their children from home, many states including California make it easier to run these home based business. I agree with her, we should improve this system. She is going to work on gathering stories we can use to support a bill on this and I’m going to do some research on what the roadblocks might be to making the regulations more workable. I love discussing these sort of common sense ideas with people like Becca.
