Opened in the Fall of 2015, The Local Buzz is a favorite meeting spot for Shandon and Rosewood residents, local business owners, coffee lovers and everyone who enjoys fresh sandwiches and desserts in a comfortable, friendly, and welcoming setting. The 30 seat cafe will offer comfortable couches, free wireless Internet, music, books, and board games, and a HD TV for all the latest news, sports and

entertainment. We proudly support Richland One Schools, Midlands Technical College, University of South Carolina, Columbia College, and other private, online, and alternative schools in the community. Owner operator, Stephanie Griggs Bridgers, and eldest son, Alex Williamson, opened The Local Buzz in order to serve a limited menu of fresh and delicious sandwiches, soups, salads, ice cream, baked goods, smoothies, and coffee drinks, while providing exceptional and friendly service to the customers. Sam, Eli, Noah, and Michael will also be on standby, as this will be a family venture!!!! While working almost 9 years at a non-profit Parent to Parent organization for Parents of Children with Special Needs, Stephanie started a group called The Breakfast Club - a social group for Teens/Tweens, in middle/high school, and their parents, to connect with others and have healthy, safe friendships. One of the missions of our family business is to provide a secure, but fun, environment for teens and young adults in our community. With an eclectic flair, The Local Buzz uses both modern and vintage styles to create a comfortable atmosphere that welcomes local residents, visitors and business owners alike. Our patrons come for exceptional food and friendly surroundings. But, more than atmosphere, great music, and cozy comforts, freshly roasted coffees, and the finest local produce, The Local Buzz strives to create every meal and drink with care and attention. FUTURE RICHLAND ONE EDUCATORS

In partnership with the South Carolina Education Association (SCEA), Richland One recognized 22 high school seniors who plan to study education in college during the district’s Future Educator Signing Day. The event was held May 2 at Columbia High School.

The Future Educator Signing Day is the first of its kind in South Carolina. Every Richland One senior who plans to pursue post-secondary study in education received an offer to work as a teacher for the district after graduating from college. The students also signed a pledge acknowledging their plans to study education.

Speakers during the event included Richland One Superintendent Dr. Craig Witherspoon, SCEA Vice President Dena Crews, 2023 South Carolina Teacher of the Year Deion Jamison and 2022-2023 Richland One Teacher of the Year Caroline Carson.

“The teachers that these future educators have had as students in Richland One have inspired them to want to become teachers themselves. They want to return to Richland One and help the next generation succeed,” said Dr. Witherspoon. “We’re very proud of their accomplishments and their desire to be educators. We’ll have their classrooms ready for them after they receive their college degrees.”

IN THE PICTURE: The ten Future Educators who attended the event were (from left) Noah Bridgers, Mary Elizabeth Barber, Lindsey Steele, Shakari Jones, Madeline McCrae, Zakoya Moore, Emma Marie Rowland, Faith Stinson, Zoey Shekitka and Jessy Gross.
