Opened in the Fall of 2015, The Local Buzz is a favorite meeting spot for Shandon and Rosewood residents, local business owners, coffee lovers and everyone who enjoys fresh sandwiches and desserts in a comfortable, friendly, and welcoming setting. The 30 seat cafe will offer comfortable couches, free wireless Internet, music, books, and board games, and a HD TV for all the latest news, sports and

entertainment. We proudly support Richland One Schools, Midlands Technical College, University of South Carolina, Columbia College, and other private, online, and alternative schools in the community. Owner operator, Stephanie Griggs Bridgers, and eldest son, Alex Williamson, opened The Local Buzz in order to serve a limited menu of fresh and delicious sandwiches, soups, salads, ice cream, baked goods, smoothies, and coffee drinks, while providing exceptional and friendly service to the customers. Sam, Eli, Noah, and Michael will also be on standby, as this will be a family venture!!!! While working almost 9 years at a non-profit Parent to Parent organization for Parents of Children with Special Needs, Stephanie started a group called The Breakfast Club - a social group for Teens/Tweens, in middle/high school, and their parents, to connect with others and have healthy, safe friendships. One of the missions of our family business is to provide a secure, but fun, environment for teens and young adults in our community. With an eclectic flair, The Local Buzz uses both modern and vintage styles to create a comfortable atmosphere that welcomes local residents, visitors and business owners alike. Our patrons come for exceptional food and friendly surroundings. But, more than atmosphere, great music, and cozy comforts, freshly roasted coffees, and the finest local produce, The Local Buzz strives to create every meal and drink with care and attention. Come by and celebrate at The Local Buzz and discover our Coffee.Cafe.Community. Monday through Friday 7am - 5pm

FUTURE RICHLAND ONE EDUCATORS

In partnership with the South Carolina Education Association (SCEA), Richland One recognized 22 high school seniors who plan to study education in college during the district’s Future Educator Signing Day. The event was held May 2 at Columbia High School.

The Future Educator Signing Day is the first of its kind in South Carolina. Every Richland One senior who plans to pursue post-secondary study in education received an offer to work as a teacher for the district after graduating from college. The students also signed a pledge acknowledging their plans to study education.

Speakers during the event included Richland One Superintendent Dr. Craig Witherspoon, SCEA Vice President Dena Crews, 2023 South Carolina Teacher of the Year Deion Jamison and 2022-2023 Richland One Teacher of the Year Caroline Carson.

“The teachers that these future educators have had as students in Richland One have inspired them to want to become teachers themselves. They want to return to Richland One and help the next generation succeed,” said Dr. Witherspoon. “We’re very proud of their accomplishments and their desire to be educators. We’ll have their classrooms ready for them after they receive their college degrees.”

IN THE PICTURE: The ten Future Educators who attended the event were (from left) Noah Bridgers, Mary Elizabeth Barber, Lindsey Steele, Shakari Jones, Madeline McCrae, Zakoya Moore, Emma Marie Rowland, Faith Stinson, Zoey Shekitka and Jessy Gross.

It's that time of the year!! Please Give Give Give! If you are not sure who to donate to - Please take the time to read up on these wonderful organizations!

My personal fave:

Senior Resources, Inc. - I definitely have first hand knowledge of how your donations make a huge impact on so many in the senior community! Keep on making these young folks active in their communities! These programs keep those enrolled involved out and about and healthier and happier!
Awesome other SR programs include Meals on Wheels, Lunch Bunch, Medical Transport, and the Foster Grandparent Program! (You will appreciate these programs more once you or someone you love gets involved in a community they serve or need a service SR provides. It's been an eye opener for me!)

More suggestions on who you could donate to - Epworth Children's Home and Epworth Early Intervention Center, Palmetto Cycling Coalition, Historic Columbia, ABLE SC, and Colatown Bike Cooperative!

Please give - often and generously!

(And, thank you to everyone who continue to donate to my Senior Resources, inc BINGO BASKET for prizes at the senior centers where I assist!)

Friends... As you know, I (Ms Stephie) have taken a very small but important role at Senior Resources.
I am involved in the program that invites, transports, and provides programs for Seniors once out of their homes and into the community!

I am not asking for monetary donations, however I am asking that IF you are at the dollar store or Walmart or Target, it would be appreciated if you - or one of my - would pick up some items for us to use in baking activities (starting in February) and/or for BINGO at one of the centers.

In February, we would like cake pop sticks and wrappers, Valentines Sprinkles, mini cupcake liners, cake mix, frosting, and also BINGO prizes - hand lotion, papertowels, detergents, toiletries, cleaning supplies, handtowels, note pads, puzzle books, playing cards, etc. If you have any unwanted unopened or unused items, we are happy to help you declutter your home.

Non perishable items can be dropped off any time on my "cottage law" home bakery address. 603 Sims Ave at Sims and Blossom in Shandon. There is a cabinet under my mailbox. Please please please take a picture of your child dropping donations off and text it to me. I'd love to show the clients. 803 602 5166

Thank you again!!!

Happy New Year, !!! I've been busy helping with family and taking care of my boys, but I miss so many of you.

While I am still taking special baking orders and have plans to host camps, I decided to take a part-time position with as an Assistant Site Manager and Driver. I am grateful that this opportunity will keep me busy while being able to help care for those I love while jumping back into our community and "keeping up" with the active senior population in Soda City.

Remember that I am only a text 803 602 5166 away.

Hugs to all. Ms Stephie

For the past 7 years (minus trip to HI in 2016 to have Christmas with son, Alex) I have worked Christmas Eve and almost every day in December up to it. Although I do miss the hugs and holiday wishes from you all during this joyful season, I feel happy and relaxed to be at home with my own family, while we look forward to attend Christmas Eve service, then drive to Savannah in the morning to spend the day with my in-laws.

Thank you for your continued support of my little bakery and your prayers as we navigate our new life. We are truly loving the flexibility of travel to see our family and the ability to enjoy our “children” more. I’ll take the quantity of time, along with the quality.

Happy Holidays - friends. Please know that you are loved and missed. And, when able, we will continue in the new year. It just wasn’t possible this month. Keep us in your continued prayers, thoughts, and send good juju!
