This is long, but worth it. Stick with me.
Bébé's started four years ago as a fundraiser to assist in paying for fertility testing and treatments for myself and my now ex husband. It helped a lot, and was an instant success. It helped keep us out of debt from medical bills.
Right before I started baking I graduated with my bachelor's of science in biology with a focus on reproductive biology. I published a research paper about microinjecting zebrafish embryos. I went on soon after to work in a research lab with mouse embryos.
I stopped baking when I got pregnant with my first baby, Ada, through what can only be called a miracle. My miracle ended way too soon, in a very dramatic and traumatic late term miscarriage.
I started baking again after moving out on my own and needing extra income. This eventually turned into me supporting myself after becoming unexpectedly pregnant with another little birth-control-defying-miracle baby. My son, Carson.
My reproductive history could be a lifetime movie.
These cookies have supported us (not quite fully) for the last 18 months. I've grown this tiny fundraiser for baby making into a full blown business. My tiny cookies are sought out, delivered all over the state and to others when I travel. You travel back to CO and make a special stop for these. You come looking for them every week at the farmers market. Those of you that are my regular customers have become friends. I am able to pay my sister in law, Shawna, to help me do this. I am VERY proud of where this started and what we have accomplished.
This entire time I have been pursuing a career working in a fertility clinic as an embryologist. I changed educational paths during undergrad into this pursuit, inspired by my own need for fertility help. I want to help others grow their families the way that I could not for so, so long. My pursuit has been relentless. It is an extremely competitive field. I am getting my masters degree in the field solely to set me apart as a candidate. It has finally paid off.
It is an extremely bitter sweet moment to ANNOUNCE with MUCH gusto that
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
I have been hired on as an embryologist at the one and only fertility clinic in Colorado Springs!!!
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
This has been my souls passion for so long. It has finally happened.
(On a side note I just realized that I spent 6 years being told I would never have babies.... and it's been 6 years since I've decided I wanted to be an embryologist. Coincidence?)
That being said, it is with much grief, joy, sadness, happiness, relief, fear, and peace that I share I will also be shutting down Bébé's Macarons. I can't be wonder woman forever, something has to give. It feels like this has come full circle and I am finally OK putting this fight to rest. I am moving on from fundraising to DOING.
I can't thank you all enough for joining me on this journey 💜 my last event will be on Aug 24th, at the Fountain farmers market at Metcalf Park. I'll be sure to be in person all day with my lovely side kick, Shawna, to say goodbye.
Thank you 💓
