BREAKING: “COUGH UP!” Victorious Gavin Newsom demands Trump refund Americans after Supreme Court overrules illegal tariffs.
It’s official: The Supreme Court just torched Donald Trump’s tariff scheme — and now California Governor Gavin Newsom wants Americans paid back. With interest.
In a blistering statement after the Court’s 6–3 ruling, Newsom called on the Trump administration to immediately issue refund checks to families and businesses who were forced to foot the bill for what the Court deemed illegal tariffs.
“Time to pay the piper, Donald,” Newsom said. “Every dollar unlawfully taken must be refunded immediately — with interest. Cough up!”
Newsom is stating the obvious: if you illegally tax the American people, you don’t get to keep the money.
The ruling confirmed what California argued in its lawsuit from day one — that Donald Trump abused emergency powers to impose sweeping tariffs without congressional approval. The Court agreed: federal law does not give the president unchecked authority to slap taxes on imports whenever he feels like it.
And make no mistake — tariffs are taxes.
According to Newsom’s office, Trump’s tariffs pulled in more than $130 billion from importers, costs that were passed directly on to consumers through higher prices on everyday goods. A Yale study estimated the average family lost $1,751 last year alone.
That’s groceries. That’s rent. That’s gas.
California was the first state to sue over the tariffs, calling them economically reckless and unconstitutional. Now, with the Supreme Court backing that position, Newsom is turning up the heat. If the tariffs were illegal, then keeping the money would be, too.
Now, the question isn’t whether Trump overstepped — the Court already answered that. The question is whether he’ll refund the American people… or try to dodge accountability again.
Because when you unlawfully raid Americans’ wallets, “sorry” doesn’t cut it.
You have to pay it back.
