Our beautiful Patsy has been in training for a FULL WEEK now and it’s been going amazing!

Sometimes people thinn just because you purchase a ‘Livestock Guardian Puppy’ they will come trained and ready to go 🤷🏻‍♀️, Ive got news for you, they don’t lol!

Over the course of 10 years we have had and even bread LGD’s and loved EVERY painstaking moment of it, but golly I forgot how intense training a puppy is, it’s been 8 years since I’ve had to 😄🤦🏻‍♀️🐕🐶 🐇🐐🐓🦃🐣🐾❤️

Alas, Patsy is doing great at protecting and guiding her goat herd and it was time to ‘level up’ to the chickens…next is the rabbits! Soon the chicken yard will be extended to include our Nannies and Kids so Patsy needs to be ready and behaved for all the jobs!

So much growth and wittle surprises! Not a day goes my that I’m not in awe of the Earth we stand on.

Blood, sweat, tears and so much love goes into this little slice of our Heaven and boy am I so proud of the girls and all the hard work they do with me!

Yesterday early morning our newest installment of chicks this season started hatching and gosh does it make me so happy!

No matter the stressors of life, there is just something so surreal about helping to bring new life into the world and help bring it up on our farm…so many nee babies, plants coming up and fruit blossoms opening!

If you have been here long you know our lives stay pretty busy! Between schooling, the bakery, the fabric shop and the farm, we try to stay on top of all the things to ensure it runs smooth!

So when you have lots of animals and farm chores to tend to on a daily basis you make things a little easier by having check list! These hang on clip boards in the main feed area for them to grab each day. Not only does this help the kiddos learn responsibility but also leadership skills because each person gets their own part of the farm.

Bringing them up with a strong work ethic, learning this type of life skill and knowing that they will be able to carry on the ‘old ways’ passed down to me, makes my heart so happy.

Tell me, do you have daily check list or to-do list that help you keep your life on track?

Some of our baby rainbow carrots were pulled, baby chicks are cracking thru, all the livestock is happy and enjoying the weather and the girls got everything topped off!

Are you a dredge in egg and milk then dry coat kinda person, or a straight on dry coat when frying fresh fish and shrimp?!?

Over here on the farm hubby grinds our corn to make cornmeal and then we whip up our own special blend of seafood and veggie coating and ALWAYS go egg/milk dipping 1st😄😄!

How do you know of your oil is ready to drop your stuff in?!? A super simple old school way is to use the end of a wooden spoon, chop stick or tooth pick! When it bubbles it’s ready!!

Well everyone, in the chaos of the wildfires and my ‘ickyness’ I forgot to introduce everyone to the newest addition to B&D Farms!

Everyone welcome Patsy Cline! She is an Anatolian Sheppard that came from a local farm operation, & is beautiful & full of s***k!

This month marks a full year since our last Guardian Dog passed, & after almost 10 years of having them protect our farm we started to deal with predators over the last few months. Even though our hearts hoped our slew of Bassets and Ledoux the Farm Yard Frenchie would do the trick, there are just too many farm yard friends for them to handle.

She comes from a strong working farm background and she is doing amazing in her training so far! Her temperament is just delightful!
