2021 10th Annual Lasagna Cook Off/Dessert Bake Off

Who would have thought at the end of last year’s wonderful, Covid free Lasagna Bake Off that when it comes to this, our 10th Annual Bake Off that we would be postponing it!
But more importantly, as we think of last year’s event, we made it through before all that has happened since really started! To which I thank G-d!!
We were lucky enough to have our 9th Annual event that came off without a real hitch. We made Gilda’s Club more money than in the previous years, in fact we have made more money each year of our Bake Off’s.
We had lots of wonderful Lasagnas & Desserts, we had a new, experienced judge that helped us this past year. As well as new people who came to our event with Lasagnas, Desserts & enthusiasm that I hope will carry over when we can reschedule our 10th Annual Bake Off!
The main reason that we are postponing to a later date is because we do not feel it is safe to get together in large or really even smaller groups of people while Covid is still such a danger. We have friends, relatives & our society to think of. Also, as much as we enjoy the eating part of our event, we also have always done well with our silent auction. This year we feel that going to ask for donations from many businesses that are fighting to stay alive is just wrong for us.
We feel we have done what we could in an effort to reach out to our supporters & we hope that those of you who read this will do the same.
Pam & I hope and pray that this note finds all of you well and staying healthy. We look forward to doing a 10th Annual Lasagna Cook Off/Dessert Bake Off when the time is right! We ask that you first take care of yourselves, but also remember the people around you; our society as a whole!
Be well, Be safe!
Gary & Pam

I know I say it during the evening, but I can’t thank you all enough for your constant support of not only me, but more importantly Gilda’s Club!
The cooks, I am telling you, your Lasagnas get better & better each year. Different lasagnas, different sauces, different noodles or substitutes are always such an exciting part of the evening!
Dessert bakers, WOW!! I gained weight looking at the amazing items made and brought for judging & more importantly eating. How Absolutely Fantastic!!
To all of you that came to taste/eat all these wonderful items, we cannot do it without you…you are one of the most integral parts of the entire evening.
What about that Magnificent Antipasto table, each year we get that from Holiday Market, I almost dare anyone to tell me they went home hungry!
Bill, Traci, Megan, Matt, Sean, Mike, Ahman & Pam; without each and every one of you the night would be a failure! I know I say it but in this note I MUST say it again, you are SPECIAL and I count myself LUCKY to have you to support Our event!
I have also said this each time we have this event, PLEASE tell the people & the places you go with your winning Silent Auction items Thank you for Supporting Collens Cooks for a Cause/Gilda’s Club or the Lasagna Bake off; it makes my soliciting of items easier if they see people coming in to use their donated item and who knows, even spending a little more while they are there.
Last year, even after changing the date we were up in amount of money made; in fact every year we have gone up in our amount made, last year ($4786); preliminary amount for this year over $6,000. As I said it is because of all of you!
Last but by no means least, GILDA’S CLUB OF METRO DETROIT, in memory of Gilda Radner & all who have fought the fight!!
Thank you for being there for Rose & I. Thank you for a place to go to be with others fighting one of the hardest fights of our lives! Thank you for having the staff, past & present to be there for us to talk with, listen to, cry with, laugh and even smile with! JUST THANK YOU!!!

Good Evening,

This evening, I am writing you to ask if we might see you at this year’s Lasagna Cook Off/Dessert Bake Off?
Some of you have joined us in the past and I am re-inviting you, still others have mentioned that you really need to attend, so this is your invite to come join us, & others have never attended and this is your come see what you are missing!
Our Lasagna Cook Off/Dessert Bake Off is in its 9th year; we have gone from Mirepoix to Sherwood Brewing, back to Mirepoix and now in our third year at Gilda’s Club of Metro Detroit. We are especially pleased to be at Gilda’s, not forgetting those that have been nice enough to have us in the past, but because those of you that attend get to see where the money you donate goes and how it has as I say: “helped to keep the doors open at Gilda’s”.
This is our second year we are expanding from a Lasagna Bake Off to a Lasagna Cook Off/Dessert Bake Off. We wanted to give others a chance who may not want to enter a lasagna, but want to show off there baking skills!
I need you to let me know if you are interested in coming? If I have already heard from you I have you on a list of attendees.
How many of you may be attending?
If you might enter our Dessert Bake Off? You would need to make enough for 2 dozen servings, small tastings. Or, we still have a couple openings for Lasagnas, if you are interested you will need to contact me so that I can get you the pan for the competition.
The way this works is you let me know you are coming, I put you on our guest list, when you enter you pay at the door, receive a ticket for voting for your favorite Lasagna That’s because you are judges, as well as our Professional Judge-Chef Jason Siarto, Assistant Regional Kitchen Manager of Kruse & Muer.
There will be an antipasto, lasagnas, garlic bread, wine, beer, a diet & regular pop (midwestern term) water, desserts & silent auction items galore!
We have gift cards, gift certificates, & baskets. We have restaurants, plants, candles, syrup, bird feeder & feed. We have many Golfing opportunities with/without carts, Admission to Henry Ford Museum or Greenfield Village, car rental for up to 7 days, massage and 2-Round trip tickets on The S.S. Badger, with places on both sides of Lake Michigan to see! Over 90 items! All you have to do is be there for a chance to win!
So, give it some thought and let me put you on our list of attendees. The date: February 29, 2020, from
5:00-8:00 PM at Gilda’s Club of Metro Detroit.
Thank you;
Gary

January 31, 2020

Good Afternoon;
I am upstairs in what I call my computer room thinking about what might be the best way to get folks involved in this year’s Lasagna Cook Off/Dessert Bake Off happening just under 1 month from today at Gilda’s Club of Metro Detroit.
I try to let folks know how we will have Lasagnas, presently I know of 6 Lasagnas that are in competition plus 1 more possibility. We will also have Desserts, presently I know of 5 entries, with 1 hanging out there as well.
There will be a silent auction, with many very nice items donated by many businesses from Ferndale, Clawson, Berkley & Oak Park. We have items from the Zoo, Henry Ford Museum, Detroit History Tours & Ernie’s Market!
There are multiple Golf Course with carts/some without needing to be auctioned.
There is alway a GREAT antipasto arrangement from Holiday Market & wine as well.
This year our Professional Judge for the Lasagne will be Chef Jason Siarto, Chef & Assistant Regional Kitchen Manager, Kruse & Muer.
What we could use more of are eaters!
$40 per person
$20 for contestants who bring lasagna or dessert
With your price of admission you get food and drinks, a vote for the fan favorite Lasagna. Also, and most importantly, you will be helping Gilda’s Club of Metro Detroit!
Hopefully, I have persuaded some you to become involved, either as a Lasagna Maker, a Dessert maker or just as important to us is an Eater!

Just finished watching “The Greatest Show on Earth” a 1952 movie with Charlton Heston, Betty Hutton & Jimmy Stewart where the circus suffers in a train wreck and they need people to attend or the circus may be washed up.
Betty Hutton, a trapeze artist helps the banged up circus performers put together somewhat of their normal parade and go in to the town with clowns, animals, balloons, & her swinging on the trapeze singing “Come to the Circus” and the entire town follows her out to their performance!
I am saving all of you from hearing me sing by writing this post this evening! However, I want you to follow me to Gilda’s Club of Metro Detroit for our 9th Annual Lasagna Cook Off/Dessert Bake Off! The date February 29, 2020, the time 5:00-8:00PM, the venue Gilda’s at 3517 Rochester Rd., Royal Oak, Mi 48073 & the price $40 per person. If you are making a Lasagna I will bring you a Lasagna pan or if you want to make a dessert make enough for 2 dz. If you are making either a Lasagna or Dessert you entry price drops by $20. If you make one of each, or 2 of one you price drops by $40.
Our judge this year is Jason Siarto, Chef Jason is one of Kruse & Muer’s regional Kitchen Managers and is looking forward to tasting & judging this year’s competition! The other Lasagna judges will be anyone who buys a ticket for the evenings event!
