🌱 So You Want to Be a Farm Hippie Vendor...
With traditional farmers market season beginning to wind down, something happens around Farm Hippie like clockwork:
Vendor applications start rolling in. 💚
Farmers, bakers, growers, makers and producers begin looking for a year-round home for their products—and we LOVE this time of year.
So we thought this was the perfect time to pull back the curtain a little on how becoming a Farm Hippie vendor actually works.
Because we have a confession:
We know we've accidentally hurt some feelings along the way. And we're sorry. 😬
As Farm Hippie has grown, so has the number of incredible Oklahoma producers wanting to join us. If we had unlimited walls, coolers, freezers and floor space, we'd probably just keep adding shelves until we reached Kansas.
Unfortunately, our buildings—and possibly the fire marshal—have other plans. 😂
The reality is that we have limited space, we cap similar products so the vendors already here have a fair opportunity to succeed, and some categories have a waitlist a country mile long.
But being waitlisted doesn't mean we don't want you.
Our application process is intentionally organized and calendared. Applications are reviewed regularly by our management team, but submitting one doesn't necessarily mean you'll get a phone call the next day.
Sometimes there's an opening right now.
Sometimes your application waits for our next review. Sometimes we absolutely love what you do, but your category is currently full.
And sometimes, a few months later, the PERFECT little spot opens up and we go digging back through our applications looking for exactly what you make.
That's why we don't toss good applications just because we can't accommodate them today.
We also prioritize what our stores need most. Farm-fresh vegetables and value-added foods are always high on our wish list, while categories like sourdough, skincare and jewelry tend to have some of our longest waits simply because so many talented people make them.
And occasionally we have to be the boring grown-ups. Licensing, labeling, food-safety requirements and other regulations aren't things we can bend, even when we really, really like you and your products.
We promise we're not trying to crush anybody's Farm Hippie dreams. 😂
We're simply trying to build marketplaces where our customers have a wonderful variety to shop and the vendors we bring in actually have room to succeed.
So, producers...PLEASE keep applying.
And if you know someone amazing who should be on our shkeves, send us your farmer friends. Send us your baker friends. Send us the person making something fantastic in their kitchen, growing something incredible in their field, or creating something Oklahoma needs to know about.
We want to meet them.
Just warn them that sometimes our answer is YES!, sometimes it's not quite yet, and sometimes their application may hang out with us awhile waiting for its moment.
And to everyone we've ever accidentally made think we ghosted them...
We're sorry. We weren't ghosting you. We were probably just out of shelf space. 😂💚
