March is Cerebral Palsy awareness month and we are sharing all about it!
Brylin has HIE-caused CP , HIE stands for Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy, and essentially means lack of it and blood flow to the brain, before , during or after birth.
We are still in the fundraising phase of Brylins stem cell therapy treatment process, about 70% of what we have raised so far is from all of the wonderful orders everyone has placed over the last few years. While life has gotten busy, causing us to bake less, we are still getting closer to our goal!

MARCH IS CEREBRAL PALSY AWARENESS MONTH
Here are some things to know about HIE and Cerebral Palsy:
👉 HIE is one of many diagnoses/etiologies that can cause Cerebral Palsy.
👉 Not every child who experiences HIE develops CP, about 40% will be diagnosed.
👉 HIE-caused CP only makes up about 10-15% of ALL CP cases. Most are caused by other types of brain injuries, stroke, prematurity, genetic conditions, brain bleeds, malformations, etc.
👉 CP is a neurological motor disorder, and the most common one diagnosed in childhood. It can affect any muscle and has a range of severity.
👉 Cerebral Palsy is a lifelong condition. There are incredible adult advocates living with CP and other disabilities who show us the best ways to advocate and support the community.
👉 While there is no “cure” to CP or HIE, there are, however, many therapies and treatments with more being developed every day!
👉 There are also a lot of treatments that are NOT effective and marketed to families, and sometimes aren't safe, So, be sure to discuss with your medical team.
👉 Cerebral palsy doesn’t affect cognition. Although some people carry a dual diagnosis, many people living with CP have typical cognition.
👉 Life may look different, but life is still good. Perpetuating stigmas of CP being something “bad” or something to pity aren’t helpful for those who live with this condition, but being aware of how we can improve accessibility and inclusion for those who have CP is helpful!
